Overview of a wizardess

Maileah Kirel (once Meguri Kirel years ago) is a highly capable wizardess and Heroine of the City currently employed by the Guardian Force. She is a traveler from parts unknown The only other known survivor (that Maileah knows of) is her small copper dragonling, Neena Kirel who used to be Maileah's de facto familiar, but Maileah has since fully adopted her as a companion/daughter. This is partially because Maileah feels that Neena should be given as good of an upbrining as possible, and partially in thanks for Neena being the brave little copperling that has saved her "Boss lady's" life many a time.

Pre COH backstory

The Begining

From what Maileah recalls, she was born in a field as a young girl wearing a white dress unsure of where she was. She could not even remember her own name, or anything else at the time. She was soon picked up by a gnome by the name of Martin Clockwork Kirel, who seemed to be looking for her who would become her adopted father. She was named 'Meguri Kirel', the name that he would have named his first born daughter had his now deceased wife been able to have children.

As it turned out, Martin was a kind man, who educated and raised his daughter Meguri very well. He found despite her being an elf, she was more than capable of understanding and excelling at the art of building golems, which was his trade. Which was good, as Meguri (Maileah) would have a difficult life growing up in a city of men. The two of them lived and worked in the Imperial capital, where magic and non humans were met with mistrust and often times hatred. As a result, Maileah would feel more isolated and shy from most people for much of her life. To this day, she has a mistrust of organized religion and large churches.

However, the Kirel built golems were some of the highest quality machines the empire had at its disposal, with line commanders asking for them by name. It was said if a Kirel built iron or stone golem broke in the field of battle it was because the commaders using them were incompetant. This ability to produce the war machines that gave the empire victory more or less kept Martin and his daughter Meguri out of trouble... at least for the time being. For Martin had been quietly teaching his daughter the arts of magic, which are forbidden in the empire's capital, as was any power that was not strictly 'divine'. Martin and his daughter escaped persecution due to their contributions to the empire's war manufacturing.

((Author's note: The truely most powerful golems ever built would be skipped a generation, one of Maileah's children in the future was able to combine Earth robotics with her mother/grandfather's golem craft to produce argueably some of the toughest hunks of mithril ever to be made.))

Banishment, and a new life

Eventually, Martin grew old and passed on from natural causes. Due to Meguri's natural long life span, she had not quite finished 'growing up' by the time he was laid to rest. And by this point, the trouble began with the politics in the empire. Meguri was a talented golemist for her age, but with Martin no longer around she could only produce the work she did at a mere half the pace as before. Her golems were also not as high of quality as when she had worked as a team with her father, so naturally the military was not so impressed with her work. As a result, the magic research she had been continuing quietly had been discovered, and she soon found herself in trouble with the law. Fortunately, one of Martin's old friends managed to pull some strings and present the young elf with an option: either voluntarily leave and go to the northern frontier, or face prosecution. So after little thought, she packed up her things and left for the north.

With what little inheretance money she had left, she bought supplies and a caravan ticket to the northern frontier.

Enter Neena

At the border of the frontier, Meguri was then dropped off and left to her own devices to walk northward another week worth of travel. It was along the way that she found a small malnourished copperling dragon wandering around in a daze, hungry and affraid. Meguri then offered the poor thing some of her rations, and the two became fast friends. The copperling took the name of Neena, and served as Meguri's side kick companion for many years. From what the two could peice together, she was recently hatched and left alone, her mother nowhere to be seen. They suspected, however, that dragon poachers may have been involved somehow.

The Frontier Adventures

Meguri and her new companion managed to arrive in the city of Crestwind a week later, where they found many other adventurers and friends who they were able to make friends with. For the first time since ever, Meguri was surrounded by people she could trust, and call her friends. Despite being shy and gentle, Meguri had a certain quiet confidence and elegance to her which only grew as she would travel with her new found companions on many different adventures through out the northern frontiers.

Perhaps one of the most formative early adventures was when Meguri, Neena, and several adventurers treked into the northern tundra wastes to slay an elder dragon that had been building an army to terrify the local population. What was perhaps some of the most frightening battles in her entire life, the young elf managed to find her bravery as her and her companions stared down a monstrous wyrm which made even armies flee in terror. Meguri herself was terrified, but in the end was able to support her friends and fight brilliantly. They managed to win the battle after a long grueling fight, much to even her own amazement... but she soon found she needed to change her drawers.

At any rate, Meguri had earned her place as a talented adventurer in her own right, and continued her magical training and helping her friends. Things were going well for the young wizardress in her new life of adventure, at least for the time being

Paragon Backstory

Possibilities?

Maileah and her companion Neena were cast outside of space and time briefly... from their point of view. But in actuality, they existed outside of the space time continum for nearly 2000 years. During this experience, the two saw two visions: the first was a hellish vision of a war torn out Paragon City, which at the time Maileah thought they were in fact in hell. The next vision they saw showed the two a beautiful city, where art, science, and magic had evolved to the point of a utopia, and where nature and human kind could finally live in balance and peace. By then, Maileah had realized that neither was a place they were in, and someone was showing them something. Author's note: Neena feels a certain empathy with Schrodinger's cat

Finally, they stood in what Maileah would later identify as a park in Atlas, in front of a massive oak tree. The world seemed still, and surreal in a way that some colours were more bright, and others were drown out. THe one thing that could be seen with clarity was the oak tree itself, who's leafs rustled in the wind. And from that rustling, Maileah could hear a voice.

Yestinu Maileah Kirel, we require your help, and your soul wishes for peace. Let us help each other.

Maileah finally found herself standing in Atlas park, in that exact same spot, except the oak tree itself was not there anymore. This time she had really been transported back to reality, although nothing of it was remotely familiar compared to where she was before...

M.A.G.I. and a Second Start

The two extra dimensional travelers soon found themselves quite lost in a strange land where technology ruled. Even though they somewhat spoke and understood the language, they were very much aliens on an alien world. Maileah and Neena wandered, looking to find some sort of bearings or someone who could help out. Eventually members of M.A.G.I. found the two of them, and took them in. The two of them would get a crash course in what modern day Paragon City, the United States of America, and Earth was all about. Maileah found the idea of how the US was founded, and the idea of a place made up of immigrants and refugees to be fascinating. Naturally, the little dragonling Neena found the pop culture and cartoons to be more fascinating than the history involved. The MAGI staff quickly learned how talented of a learner and a wizard Maileah was. Not only was she naturally bright, but her modifications in her time with the Tel'Karan made her an exceptionally gifted wizardess and potential scientist, as she took to the sciences and maths easily.

After several months of localizing, Maileah and Neena were eventually given dimensional refugree status, and given their Yellow Cards signifying U.S. Citizenship. After this time, Maileah continued learning much the way she always did: by reading a lot of books, trying some things out for herself, and once in a while talking to a mentor when she wished to learn more. She was able to do the equivalent of a masters degree in experimental physics and the paranormal within a few short years, and two years later had written a PHD thesis on the applications of experimental dimensional magics, followed by a proof of concept of being able to travel magically by dimensional ley line energy. As one could guess, the reasoning for her directing these studies the way she did was Maileah was homesick, and wished to return to her old home to make sure everything was all right.

Meanwhile, Neena had been attending school for the gifted magical beings, but was getting incredibly bored doing so. Maileah had felt that it was irresponsible of her in the past to use Neena as a side kick dragonling, and adopted her offically. She would give Neena a good life, and raise the little copperling to the best of her ability. Unfortunately, Neena was used to the life of high adventure and "burninating bad guys!". She did not take to being couped up in a school for the magically gifted all day, and longed to be out saving the world again. The other problem that Neena was having was that she was having a major growth spurt: where Neena once could fit into the palm of your hand, she was now the size of a mid to large dog, and could easily knock over a full grown person. Flying around the appartment was also hazzardous, as she took much more room to fly and would knock things over.

Maileah and Neena Ride Again!

Maileah, having now a firm grasp of how things worked on Earth, and Neena itching for action again, decided to start fighting the good fight again to save the world. So the two of them began the fight against evil by becomming registered heroes at Paragon City Hall, and doing their part. They quickly found that the crooks on Earth were a much higher caliber than the ones back on Exaria were. For starters, even the stupidest street thug had a gun, and many more powerful beings roamed the city freely, looking to pick on the weak. Maileah's defensive wards were put to the test, and Neena found herself having to dodge painful high velocity bullets, as her scales had not hardened enough to take those sorts of shots head on.

However, after many missteps and trials, the two found themselves becomming a force to be reckoned with in the hero community. (work in progress)
