History

Prior to S.C.O.R.P.I.O.

Serenity Richland was raised in an oppressive family environment, her father being authoritarian, and her mother quiet and submissive, both discouraged open communication. At the same time, her father, a criminal attorny for a national lawfirm, was regularly transfered around the country, precluding deep friendships with her classmates. One of the greatest influences in her childhood was her grandfather. A marine in WWII, he was one of the few veterans who would actually speak about his experiences in the war, and from him she gained a love of history and an appreciation for the price of freedom.

When she reached high school she went out for track and discovered her passion. Track gave her an escape from her family life. When she ran, her cares would fall away and it was just her and the track. It was mundane, demanding, and exausting, but to Serenity it was like flying - a freedom she had never known. In college she became friends with a group of anarchists and through them gained a boyfriend who would introduce her to the world of extreme sports. A year later she began to openly embrace individualist anarchism. Shortly thereafter she had a falling out with her parents and left home and the states to travel the world with her boyfriend.

At the age of 22 she completed her first triathalon. At 23 she scaled Everest and came within a half-day's climb of the summit but was forced to turn back due to extreme weather conditions and equipment failure. At 24 she completed the Hawaii Ironman Triathalon, and at 25 she was introduced to Parkour by a coworker while apprenticing at an auto repair shop in Germany.

One year ago Serenity Richland, AKA: Ashen Wren would have been unsuitable for membership within S.C.O.R.P.I.O. She had moved back to the states to marry the same boyfriend she had traveled the world with for 5 years and open an auto & motercycle repair shop of her own. Despite the seeming new stability in her life she still openly embraced anarchism, and had severe issues with authority in general and the government in particular. Nine months ago (and one month before her wedding) her fiance was killed fighing a member of the Warriors who wanted to take her as "his woman". The resulting greif, fear, and anger did what years of adreneline rushs couldn't - awaken her latent phychic powers. She lashed out at the Warrior with her pyrokinetic abilities, and while they didn't cause serious injury they did give her a chance to escape.

Since that day she has come to realize the benefit of an ordered society and begun to appreciate the laws that her estranged father fought to uphold all those years. She has also started to hone her pyrokinetic powers with the same focus and determination she applies to every other aspect of her life and while her psychic range is limited the results are spectacular. She also exibhits some of the telekinetic abilities one would expect in conjunction with pyrokinesis, however that ability is limited in scope and has no combat applications.

Personality

On the surface Ashen Wren is an energetic individual always looking for the next rush. This exterior hides the emotional distance and intense control she maintains. Her nomadic upbringing has made it difficult for her to form close relationships with her peers, though that's not to say she can't or doesn't. Even with this emotional distance she seems commited to protecting and encouraging the rights and freedoms of those around her - even strangers and criminals.

The animosity she once harbored for authority was quickly replaced with tolerance after the death of her fiance, and that tolerance is gradually becoming wary acceptance. While she respects and acknowledges the government and authority figures, she has a deep-seated distrust of both - fearing corruption and betrayal. It is this analyst's opinion that this view will not conflict with S.C.O.R.P.I.O. or its operations. On the contrary, it will most likely serve to keep the organization honest and true to it's original purpose.
