Appearance

The Ebon Fist is a normal sized gauntlet made of an unknown metal (though suspected either Ur-Metal or a derivative alloy). It appears a mid-grey in color, though has been seen with black markings as well. Closer inspection reveals very intricate detail, including multiple runic scripts and various macabre images (skulls, etc).

Powers

The gauntlet is a potent magical artifact which allows the wielder to control dark energy, as well as control over the supposed tormented souls of Hades' realm. It is unknown if this latter part is accurate, or if the so-called "tormented souls" are merely another manifestation of the nether-energy. It can also summon forth undead servitors; however, undeath is not a common occurance, and obtaining powerful undead servants is difficult. Hence, the wielder will be limited to a handful of servants at a given time (and such a condition explains why large groups such as the Banished Pantheon can only maintain hordes of lowly zombies).

History

The Ebon Fist has only recently been revealed to be such; it was long known as Hades' Hand, and dates to Ancient Greece (at the very least). It is rumored to be the glove of Hades, the Lord of the Underworld.

The entity known as Black Jack Rackham has had the gauntlet in his possession for several hundred years, and it is known to be one of the earlier artifacts he obtained. Jack gained the Hand from a sunken temple of Hades off the shores of Greece. Despite some undead defenders, Jack and his crew managed to break into the temple's treasury, where a respectable amount of treasure remained. Always with an eye for exceptional items, Hades' Hand was claimed from the hoard by Jack, and has served him well since.

Due to the amount of time Jack has wielded the Fist, it has "merged" with his essence. While separation is theoretically possible, it would require considerable effort and magical power, in addition to raising the ire of the powerful undead sorcerer.

Interestingly, the artifact must have been known to Abyst, as Jack was bestowed the title "Lord of the Ebon Fist" by the Overlord. The reasons for this are unknown, but Jack found the title appealing, and has accepted it.
