Personality
Brightwing is a fully-merged Peacebringer. The personalities of Brightwing (the Kheldian) and Akane Callaghan (the human) have completely merged into a singular personality--a bubbling, bright and cheerful young lady. Though sometimes naive, the Kheldian/Human can display insights and knowledge far beyond her physical appearance. This is partially due to the merge of human and alien, but also was part of Akane's human high intelligence and empathy.
Brightwing is outgoing and magnetic, an optimistic extrovert. In battle she is cautious, but relentless and will use any advantage at her disposal to aid herself and her team-mates, often shifting forms multiple times in a battle to gain the edge in a fight or defend a friend.
Powers
Brightwing has many of the typical powers of a Kheldian/Human fused Peacebringer, giving her the ability to direct and manipulate energy as a shield, blast or life-restoring touch. She can also take the forms of Bright Nova or White Dwarf.
Wings
In addition to the standard array of Peacebringer powers, Brightwing also has a large pair of bird-like wings extending from her back. As Peacebringers can naturally fly, the wings seem to be purely decorative in nature. While not particularly practical, Brightwing has learned to focus and change their color or even the shape of the wings to reflect what she's wearing. However, she always has wings. Whether eventually the stunted mutation will add to a definitive asset in the future is unknown.
Abilities
As a human, Akane Callaghan was a bright, intuitive child. When merged with the Kheldian Brightwing, the intelligence was increased drastically and the additional knowledges of quantum physics and higher maths was granted and expounded upon. Using her accelerated knowledge of physics and geometry, Brightwing can choose optimal targets for her energy blasts.
Character History
Akane Callaghan was 8 when she made her first invisible friend. Unlike most children, however, her invisible friend was not imaginary, but a young, unbound, Kheldian named Brightwing. The two were fast friends and the alien's higher knowledge helped the girl accelerate through her grades, putting her in high school at the age of 12.
When Akane reached the age of 14, an event occurred which would alter her life forever. During her high school graduation, she stepped on to the stage to accept her diploma, her body was contorted in spasms of anguish and she began frothing at the mouth. Fearing for its companion, the Kheldian merged with the teen--ceasing her mutant development on moments after wings had begun to spring forth from the girl's back. The two were merged as a Peacebringer, but in a catatonic state for nearly a year.
At age 16 Akane not only began her "career" as the hero Brightwing but also enrolled in Paragon City University. Thinking that trying to juggle homework, shopping, dating and crime-fighting might tax her limits alone, she joined the League of Justice (seeing a flyer for them on the campus bulletin board).
Shortly after Akane's 17th birthday, the League of Justice had a falling out and Brightwing found herself calling on friends and old allies when in need. Despite that, she has retained her upbeat nature and has proven herself an asset to the community against foes evil and amoral. She was even designated one of the "Heroes of the City" by Statesman. Evildoers, beware! Brightwing is in town!
