Captain Kidd - Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe

Captain Kidd

From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe

Jump to: navigation, search

The idea for Captain Kidd has some dubious beginnings. He was meant to serve as the final villain in a now aborted AE arc, but later the concept and costume seemed so tantalizing that I was compelled to play him. I hope no one is bothered by what is an original creation that pays a homage to story lines and characters previously played.

Biography

The man identifying himself as Julius Kidd seemed to appear in the Rogue Isles one day out of the blue. No previous records of his existence have been found anywhere until he was first processed and added to an Arachnos database. He has kept his past to himself, and instead seems more interested in trying to forge a new future.

Secret Origins

Kidd hails from a different world than Primal Earth with a quantum chronology slightly accelerated to several years in the future. The principle difference between the two world's history would be that his Earth was never embroiled in an inter-dimensional conflict with the Rikti. This resulted in several significant differences, including a more traditional superhero base, certain technological advances, and a more peaceful global arena.

First appearing in Paragon City, he made his way to the Rogue Isles by sneaking aboard a smuggler's ship, there to start a new life in a vaguely familiar world.

Rogue Isles

Since arriving in the Arachnos-run haven, Kidd has mostly laid low, learning the lay of the land while making various contacts among the island's citizens. Given a threat level and sometimes mistaken for a Destined One, he has used his skills and savvy to work under the blanket term of a professional mercenary. He has become involved in various crimes, including numerous thefts across the Isles and even in Paragon City, and is suspected of murder.

He has made no definite plans for the future, preferring to keep his options open for the nonce, and has worked to break ties with traditional villainous activities. However, he still lives in the Rogue Isles and has been known to work for Arachnos from time to time.

Physical Attributes

Captain Kidd is fairly physically fit. As a regular human he practices daily, honing his skills in order to compete against those with actual powers.

Powers and Abilities

Possessing no superhuman abilities, Julius relies on his training in combat and an assortment of high-tech equipment to surpass all others. From a young age he was taught fencing, hand-to-hand combat, and projectile weaponry. He holds himself with the agility of an acrobat. Furthermore, he has mastered certain meditative techniques that can serve to temporarily boost his strength and metabolism, ignoring pain while promoting good health.

Paraphernalia

Although usually seen in his simple red ensemble, Kidd first appeared in an armored outfit of sleek, glossy metal. Sometimes he carries with him bladed weapons such as a sword or daggers. Other important gear to which he has access includes a stealth device, grenades, and other incendiaries. He can move great distances in a short amount of time by way of a futuristic rocket board.

Weaknesses

Julius carries the same weaknesses of most any human being. He fears the effects of psychics, against which he is ultimately vulnerable, and is seeking a technological means to counteract it.

Personal Associations

Julius is on the onset a personable fellow--sometimes witty, sometimes charismatic, usually friendly. He can also be demanding, exacting, vindictive, greedy, and ruthless. Two people rarely have the exact same experience when dealing with Captain Kidd.

Group Membership

Formerly the leader of his own band of raiders calling themselves the Crimson Crew, Kidd currently has no membership in any group. For now he lives the life of a lone rogue, but this may change.

Friends and Allies

Working in the Isles and beyond, Kidd is starting to acquire a small circle of friends and accomplices that may aid him in future endeavors.

Enemies List

Thankfully Julius has yet to make any deadly arch enemies aside from a few petty, long-remembered grudges.
