The Beginning

Celezgiel Hitsugaya was born in the early years of the world. In a time when Magic, and Mystical creatures were a common sight. His parents were never known to him. Nor did anyone have a single memory of anyone caring for him in his early years. Celezgiel himself remembers very little about his young self, but then most people do not remember themselves as infants. He grew up mostly alone on what is now called North America but found himself in a small village of Elder High Elves. Because his earliest memory was of these elves, he was believed at the time to be a Halfling. He aged almost normally, like a human, and yet it was slightly slower than a normal human. At the age of 5, the village he had been living in decided to move across the great ocean to a place that would later be known as Kyoto, Japan. It was here that the Elves discovered Celezgiel's love of music.

As he grew into a young man, Celezgiel took music as his pride and joy. He became a bard and was proficient with almost every instrument known at the time. His music inspired people around him. He found that some of his songs could aid people in battle, the beating of his war drums gave them renewed vigor. Other songs would wash away a persons fatigue and enable them to run miles without tiring. Though the times were very dangerous. And at a young age of 14, Celezgiel was instructed in the ways of the sword. His elven friends made sure that their comrade did not venture into a violent world with nothing but a flute.

Cel seemed to take to the blade rather well. It came almost second nature to him, as simple as weaving a harmony on his lute.

Fortune did not favor Celezgiel it seems. For the ones that had been caring for him most of his life thus far had begun to reject him, due to his differences. He was not among the ageless of their ranks. And thus was gently asked to leave the village. With a heavy heart, he did so. But his exile into the world would reap a friendship that has only been spoken of in fairy tales.

Greyrose, The First Shadow Walker

Years passed for the young man. Though because of his semi-human aging process, 5 years went by and it found him as only 16 in maturity. He had taken to living in a light forested area, for he rather enjoyed climbing trees and relaxing whilst looking into the sky.

One day, Celezgiel was relaxing under a giant oak tree playing his flute. Everything coming from this day seemed absolutely normal. Every detail mirroring the day prior. A gentle breeze blowing through the trees made him smile into his flute and close his eyes. When he opened his eyes however, he found that he was not alone. He had an audience in the way of some kind of wolf woman. He was immediately startled by this. He had seen some of her kind before in the towns he went to trade with, but never this close. And there was something familiar about her that Celezgiel simply could not put his finger on. She had said nothing to him but simply nodded for him to continue playing. Before he could however, her image ran through his head. It was the same face that stared at him now, eerie blue eyes, gray fur. Except this image was on a wanted poster. Squatting before him was none other than Greyrose, the Assassin.

Upon glancing over her gear, he confirmed his fears with the sight of two daggers on her belt, her weapon of choice. Celezgiel looked directly into her eyes but found no harmful intent. This stilled his heart enough to continue playing. Once he felt that she was no threat to him, Cel returned to closing his eyes. Yet another breeze caressed his face as his song ended, causing another smile to break his lips, but as he opened his eyes once more. Greyrose was nowhere in sight.

This tradition began almost every day. Celezgiel would sit under his favorite tree and play his flute. A gentle breeze would ruffle his hair and when he least expected it, Greyrose would be there, lounging close by, listening to his music. Eventually they began talking. His fear of her soon subsided completely, for he saw a different person than what the wanted posters made her out to be. Celezgiel soon became great friends with Greyrose, who admitted that she preferred the name Roessa, or Roe for short.

Roe seemed to look down upon Celezgiel's skill with a sword however. In times of danger, even with his natural affinity for it, Cel was simply mediocre at best. Roe began to instruct him in the use of knives, daggers and throwing weapons. She also taught him the basics of walking among the shadows. Subtlety, and it's practicality in combat. She showed him the importance of mind over matter. How most enemies could be outsmarted instead of out muscled and overpowered. Roe taught him how to read and speak in different languages. She taught him basic mathematics and history. In a way, Roe was the person who individually shaped Celezgial Hitsugaya into the man he would ultimately become. She never spoke of her age at that point however. Cel did not think it important at the time. He would find out how important it was later on in life.

Darktide

As the years passed, Celezgiel slowly discovered that Roessa was part of an organization called Darktide. A group of warriors, musicians and historians. A medium sized guild in which members found themselves surrounded by like minded individuals, and truly a place to rest their heads at night. Roe extended him an invitation to join Darktide and Cel accepted readily enough. He wanted a family more than anything, and found this in most ways, simply with being with Roessa. Though he yearned for more contact. More friends.

Cel was brought before the leader of Dartide. A bipedal panther creature named Lord Kyrenis. Immediately, Celezgial took to hating this person. Kyrenis came off as selfish, self centered and ultimately, egotistical in the most annoying ways imaginable. But this did not push the young man away. He still had Roe and some new acquaintances within Darktide. He was not there long, however, when things began to shift.

The Coup

With skills taught to him by Roessa herself, Celezgiel Hitsugaya uncovered a plot to overthrow Lord Kyrenis and take over Darktide. Much to his astonishment however, all leads that he came up with regarding this plot, led straight back to his best friend and mentor as the chief instigator. And so Celezgiel finally confronted her about the plans, not to try and convince her to stop. But rather to bring him in on her plans. His loyalty was to her and her alone. Perhaps it was because she had seen something in him that no other had. More than an innate talent with music. Roe, at being confronted with his knowledge and facts.... simply smiled at him. Instead of giving him a direct answer, she gave him one last riddle for him to solve.

"I am held by chains of glass. When you are able to solve this riddle, it will be time for us to part company."

At first Celezgiel did not want to solve it. For he did not want to leave Roessa's side. But he knew that all good things had to come to an end. And he had all the time in the world to figure it out. In the meantime however, they plotted and conspired, forming plans to remove Kyrenis by force. Neither could stand toe to toe with Kyrenis in battle, but the two whispering individuals had something that the Panther man did not.

Intellect.

"He is only the leader of Darktide because he has the public face. But not the power to lead..."

"So what would it take to elevate the whole of Darktide and lead them to the status they deserve?"

"What do you think? You are smarter than this. Use your head."

"....To lead, one must have the allegiance of the soldiers. But you have that."

"Go on..."

".... A coup then....This organization works by dog psychology, prove that you are better than the pack leader and become the head yourself. Trap the Alpha in an unavoidable death trap and show your superiority, the soldiers will follow their true leader."

"Very good."

" ...Excellent.... when do we start?"

The Coup De Tat went off and Kyrenis was removed from power. The Panther creature didn't know what hit him....

Parting of the Ways

After the Coup, Celezgiel had decided that it was time for him to find his own path. Roessa was busy running Darktide and they rarely had time to talk like they used to. It was for this reason that Celezgiel Hitsugaya decided to leave. He wanted to further his lessons in the way of Shadow Walking. He wanted to surpass Roe, not out of spite, but because by doing so, he would show her that he was capable of doing something more with himself.

To this end. He went in search of the rumored society of Dragon Ninja, living in the hills of Kyoto. To be the best, he had to train with the best. But first he had to prove himself worthy of their teachings. His main problem was not training however. But finding them in the first place. Cel was resourceful, but had no idea how to locate people who lived in complete secrecy. Luck was on his side though. Through his dealings with Roessa, he learned a few tricks about shadow walkers. He seemed to have gotten a bit too close for the comfort of the ninja because he was visited by one, one night that tried to kill him. Had it not been for Roe's training and his knowledge of forewarning, such as the breeze that may seem natural to most people, he probably would have died then. As it was he fended off this would be assassin and was brought before the Dragon Master. It was decided that Cel would be trained.

Training with the Dragons

It was nowhere near easy. Celezgiel quickly became a cold individual. He no longer harbored his spark for life, but was turned into a killing machine.

Early in training, all initiates were taught the use of their soul energy. It was a power that all humans possessed but few realized they had it. It was not a type of magic, but rather a manipulation of one's own inner strength. The Dragon clan found that Celezgiel Hitsugaya had an unusually large amount of this energy, seen only in Master ninja. It was unfocused however and Celezgiel did not realize he had it.

The Training itself was very difficult. Most people died in the process of training. Celezgiel never made friends because of this. He soon gained the respect of his surviving peers and teachers however, by not only living through training, but mastering the basics so fast.

Some of this training came in the way of fighting in the freezing temperature of the peak of a nearby mountain. He was made to take off his warm tunic and fought with nothing but his hands, which were wrapped in a thin but durable material. It was the only part of his upper body that was clothed. He had to find ways to keep from succumbing to hypothermia, he did this by moving constantly, and sparring with the men that had brought him to the top of the mountain. It was a constant battle of life and death. Not only to fight in the cold. But to fight the cold itself. Celezgiel barely made it out of this training, but he earned his place among his superiors by doing so.

When he recovered from the mountain training, Celezgiel was taught the Way of the Wind. True masters could meld with the air around them to mask their presence. To demonstrate this, his Master seemingly began to fall apart as a freak random gust of wind blew through a room with no windows and a closed door. Celezgiel was told that once he mastered this technique, he would be a Master himself. No hints and no instructions were given, as to how he could do that however. And so he concentrated on getting stronger. He took up the Katana and became an expert blade weaver.

After a few years of training, Celezgiel was finally awarded his mask. It was a symbol that initial training had been completed and he could finally be called a Ninja. Once the mask was worn, it was never taken off. The man wearing it ceased to exist. Such was the way it happened. Cel was no longer a man, he was a shadow. Black was his color. Sunlight became his friend, for it cast shadows for him to hide in. The meaning of his existence became nothingness. His purpose was to keep the balance of the world. To go out and end the lives of those that would tip scales in their own favor. Celezgiel killed 37 men in two months, all of which were drug lords, crime bosses, and generally bad individuals. Cel ceased to be the kind loving bard he once was. He instead grew to love the hunt. His fault was that he killed not because there was no other way. But because he enjoyed it. He was the best at his age and he knew it. He became arrogant and egotistical. It was his greatest falling, and it cost him dearly.

Once he had been given his mask, Celezgiel gave up his name. Instead he took on the alias of Tenkalus, the root of which meant Shadow. Tenkalus quickly became the talk of Kyoto. A rumor whispered in passing to those who did wrong. A figment placed into the imagination of a child's bedtime story to scare them into being good. For if you did wrong, Tenkalus would come to you, and you would pass from your life before you knew you were dead. This carried on for years. Tenka finally turned 18 in his bodies maturity cycle. He was destined for other things than a long life it seemed.

Word had gotten to the most powerful crime lord in Kyoto that his actions had attracted the attention of the infamous Tenkalus. He was a powerful man, with an ego to match his influence. But unfortunately. He was not stupid. The night that Tenka decided to take him out, was the same night that the crime lord outsmarted the young man.

He left a decoy in his place and Tenka fell for it. The instant he realized he had been fooled, he found a blade emerging from his stomach. He didn't die right away however. Somehow, Tenkalus managed to stumble out of a nearby window and plummet to the trash ridden alleyway below. The crime lord followed him out leisurely taking the steps in his building down to where the wounded boy lay. The last thing Celezgiel remembered of this instance was the Lord taking his own blade and piercing his heart with it, then snapping the blade off and leaving it in the alley as he died.

Darkness enveloped Celezgiel Hitsugaya with hate burning in his veins with pain. It was this hate that allowed something terrifying to happen. The darkness consumed him and when his eyes opened again, he was staring into the eyes of a black dragon. The dragon told him that he had been watching Celezgiel's progress as an assassin since it's inception. The dragon explained that he had a problem. He was one of several ancient shadow dragons that occupied their own realm. They influenced small decisions in the world, pushing people to darkness. Bikou, as he named himself, simply got overzealous in his duties and like Cel, began to enjoy his task too much to the point where his suggestions were no longer subtle. His brothers bound him to a meager existence in his own realm, damned to never influence the outside world again, only to watch. But, Bikou explained, there was a loophole. Should an individual with a soul dark enough to hold him come along, Bikou could enter into a kind of, coexistence. He told Celezgiel that, should he accept this pact, he would be granted all of the powers of a Shadow Dragon demon, immortality included. The only thing that was asked of him was that Bikou be allowed to ride around in his body and watch him destroy lives.

Cel accepted, the hate and blood lust in his heart still driving him to kill. Tenkalus the Shadow awoke the next morning with no memory of what had transpired with Bikou. But he found a dead man next to him in the dark hours of the morning. It was the crime boss from the night before that had... killed him? But here Tenkalus was. Alive and whole. Nothing but a neat scar over his heart to show record of what happened. He found the Crime Lord hanging from a wooden beam outside of his residence. Upon the body rotating in the wind, Tenkalus nearly choked on his own air.

The Crime Lords stomach had a large hole in it. All of his organs were missing, and upon closer inspection. Tenka found that the man had been hung with his own intestines. The word "Bikou" was carved into the dead mans chest and a broken sword was still clutched in the blood soaked hands of Tenkalus.

That was the most gruesome death that Tenka had ever seen, and he refused to believe himself capable of such things. Someone had framed him. So he fled from Kyoto. Making his way to North America once more.

Bikou lay dormant within Celezgiel Hitsugaya for over 1500 years. In this time Cel only became stronger by some unknown force within him. He chalked it up to his intense training. Though the question of his lifespan had begun to plague him....
