A Peacebringer of the human named Colum, who want to truly help those around him and a Kheldian named Aegis, who never lived a real life other than just fighting. Coming to form after both nearly perished against Void Hunters. They both have formed a bond to provide something that the other lacks to complete each of their lives.

Background

Vivid Human Abettor

Desire to Become

“I know I can be ‘something’ if I could just get the chance.”

-Colum as he draws

A creative spirit born in Fairbank, Alaska, Colum always had a drive to help others through his art with the stars being his inspiration for his imagery. His parents, on the other hand, can understand his intentions, but his method seems rather useless. He and his parents had difficulty seeing eye to eye at times. They tend to butt heads dealing with Colum’s personal life: wanting him to be a bank accountant, wanting to date/marry a woman instead of a man, having children, practically everything. Not even able to get friends, the little he could even get as he grew up, as they’re always so critical of who he chooses to associate with and always kept busy to do practically everything for them outside his parents’ jobs to even bother with socializing. Their constant control on his life constantly put a severe strain on their relationship with their son. Eventually leading him to leave his life behind at home and make a new start at Paragon City at Rhode Island. He was aware it’s more of city for people with superpowers, but he’s sure he can make a path of his own to be helpful in his own way.

The Solo Struggle

“I guess I really can’t help much with just art...”

-Colum coming to face with his life choices

Arriving in Paragon City, he was ready to start his new life to really help others. Even though he doesn’t superpowers, he knows he contribute in some way! Well...too bad just being an artist and a person who stares at space can only provide so much. Reality hit him like a brick wall of feeling the struggle of not having almost anyone needing help. An art commision here and there is just enough to get by. It especially doesn’t help when you make something like a mural to only get destroyed by a superpowered brawl the next day… Despite things looking bleak, he wants to commit to this decision to avoid going back to Fairbanks and not give his parents the satisfaction of being right of his “poor life choices”. It doesn’t help he still haven’t managed to get any friends from his terrible social skills and just being shy in general. Time goes by as he steadily loses the drive to draw as much and falls to his other hobby of astrology to keep him from feeling too blue. The sight of a particular comet that passes through the sky from time to time gives him hope. He just has to keep trying. Things should work out eventually...right?

Something Beyond The Stars

“Are those two comets…?!”

-Colum looking at the night sky

On a clear night, Colum was observing the sky to keep his mind distracted from his troubles and maybe get some inspiration again to do an art project, but alas, he couldn’t get any creative sparks going. Almost on cue before he was about to pack up and go home, he saw something streaking across the sky...wait, two things? It looked like two comets; one following the other. As he continued to watch the comets, he was caught off-guard by a pack of suspicious vans came roaring that also seem to be chasing the two comets. Not sure too sure why those vans would be chasing the comets, he looked back at the comets. He eventually took an educated guess that those comets were actually going to hit ground not too far off from where his. That must be why those vans were following it. Curious himself, he followed the comets as well but keeping his distance from the eerie vans.

Arriving near the land site, he observed from afar what was going on. There was what seemed like an army of soldiers emitting a strange energy surrounding the center of the comets’ crash site. In that center was something that Colum have never seen before. An alien perhaps? He couldn’t relish the sight of the odd creature for long when one of the soldiers started shouting commands followed by a flurry of gunfire all toward the alien. All he could do was watch in horror as the creature was practically getting ripped apart from their strange weapons. That is, until the creature started shine brightly. Followed by an intensely bright explosion with Colum out of range a good amount of feet.

When the explosion light dimmed down, it seemed like all the soldiers were eliminated...all but one. That one looked far more powerful compared to the others and was slowly heading towards back to the alien to possibly finish the job. Tired of just watching from afar as he just sees this poor alien suffer while he does nothing about, he grabs an ounce of courage, starts his van, then crashes headfirst into the surviving soldier followed by a tree, sandwiching the soldier, in hopes of saving the creature. Alas, while the his heroic act did plenty of damage to the soldier, it seemed they still have the fortitude to escape while Colum was severely injured from his recklessness. The soldier was now approaching him loading his gun. Too weak to barely even move, he slowly shifted his vision to where the alien was. The alien seemed to be gone. It must have took the opportunity to escape. The soldier was now pointing his gun directly at his chest with energy charging up to fire. Even though he knows was going to die, he closed his eyes with a smile at knowing he can at least be satisfied for actually helping someone...

Lone Kheldian Guardian

Nictus Hunter

“The Nictus will pay.”

-Aegis as he trains

A Kheldian of intense drive to protect those around him, especially his people from the Nictus. He’s a “supersoldier” in the sense that he alone was trained in a manner to really push his limits of a Kheldian to effectively be immortal by being able to survive without a host with the Kheldian’s “common” forms of the Mefnanim (Nova) and the Kurukt (Dwarf). However, this comes at the cost of being almost impossible to merge with other lifeforms. This allows him to focus on only hunting and eliminating the Nictus in far off galaxies to ensure there are none hiding in the shadows of space without worrying about a host lifeform such as collapsing from intense space travel, dealing with their personal duties not pertaining to fighting the Nictus, or other limitations such as endurance, hunger, socializing, etc aside from his own with resting and having energy. He accepted his duty with honor and given the moniker of “Aegis (of the Astral)” as a means to show his bravery to travel beyond to help his people.

An Empty Reality

“My life is truly nothing more than fighting...”

-Aegis pondering over his life's duty

As years, centuries, and millennials, pass by, he began to feel the drawbacks of his duty. While quite an honor indeed, all he does fight. Fight, fight, fight. Kill Nictus here, eliminate 100 here, destroy 1,000 there. It’s always just fighting. Even if he tries to have a life with other life he came across, he knows it wouldn’t lead to much when at the end of the day, he has to keep fighting the good fight. He almost wanted do something beyond that when came across a planet called Earth. He even sensed some of those beings called humans merged with some of his people, calling themselves “Peacebringers”. Most of them gathering in a place called Paragon City in an area known as Rhode Island. The humans looked so fragile. “Why would the Kheldian merge with them?” he wondered. Yet, he felt compelled that maybe he should...no. Doesn’t matter, he was given that training in the past for a reason. Attempting to merge with these humans or any lifeform for that matter is selfish as well as impossible desire. Despite this, he at least tries to visit Earth from time to time to imagine having a life beyond fighting.

The Chase to a Defeat

“I guess this is...the end...”

-A severely weakened Aegis seeing an approaching Void Hunter

His eternal duty continues to weigh on him as he flies through space towards Earth for a visit. A constant reminder that he’s nothing more than immortal assassin at this point, but it’s for his people, right? That’s why he took the training. It should be an honor, but it feels so meaningless at this point. As he ponders from his personal struggle of his duty, a Nictus zooms pass by him heading toward Earth as well. In fact, to Paragon City no less. That seemed odd as there’s plenty of those Peacebringers that could take this one Nictus, but there’s also plenty of Nictus on Earth as well. This one felt odd to him as well...but still a Nictus nonetheless. He proceeds to give chase.

Eventually, his pursuit ended with both Aegis and the Nictus crashing to the ground. As Aegis was ready to brawl with the Nictus, said Nictus just faded away into a mist of energy until nothing remained. This didn’t make sense to Aegis. He knew better Nictus wouldn’t just fade like that. He couldn’t think of the matter much longer when hordes of vehicles arrived with what seemed like dozens and dozens of soldiers now surrounding him with weapons pointed at him. However, these soldiers seemed different. They’re giving of fragments negative energy...like Nictus. He knew this was a trap at this point. No matter to him. He prepared to fight them in Navo form. They’re only humans with some power from the Nictus, no problem. This went completely south fast as the first shot on him felt something much worse compared to Nictus. He never felt so much pain. This soon led to a barrage of the weapons all hitting his body. He couldn’t die this. Not with such an empty life. As a last ditch effort, he changed to Dwarf for to give him time to self-destruct himself.

As his explosion subsided, he had just enough energy to at least maintain a blue wisp-like form. All the soldiers seemed to have perished...all but one. The survivor seemed much more powerful compared to the others, and they were headed toward him to finish the job. He couldn’t believe his life is just going to end like this. Being nothing more than just a weapon. Albeit for a good cause to keep his people safe, but nothing more than that. Ready to accept his fate, all he could do was wait. That is until he peered at another vehicle speeding toward the powerful soldier. Eventually crashing into them and then crashing into a tree that crushed the soldier between the random vehicle and the tree. While he didn’t want to retreat, he doesn’t have the energy to fight any longer. He only has enough to escape. As he was prepared to take off, he noticed the soldier was still alive. In fact, he even had the strength to escape his ordeal to approach the vehicle’s driver seat… They were going to kill the human driver, Aegis just knows it. Not to turn away when someone about to die from his failure to take out all the dangerous soldiers himself, he made a decision. With all his strength, he dashed toward the human and attempt to merge with them. He has to at least try to save them both...

Unique Bond Forged

Fight for a Second Chance

A: “We are NOT going to die here!” C: “We…?”

-Aegis speaking to Colum within in him

As Aegis went into the Colum’s body, he tried to find any sign of Colum’s life energy, anywhere, somewhere. It seemed life was all gone from Colum like space with no stars, no planets, just nothing. That is until he spotted a shred of the human’s life energy over yonder. Aegis flew towards it to grab hold of it to merge some kind of way. He has to save them. They both can’t die for nothing. Outside the human body, the soldier was just about to fire until they were blinded by a radiant light from the body, dropping their weapon to attempt to cover their eyes while distancing themselves from Colum’s van. The light soon faded. The soldier figured this was their chance to retaliate and proceeded to retrieve their dropped weapon.

Once the soldier recovers their weapon, they heard a voice behind them saying, “You will pay…” Hearing this, the soldier quickly turn around to take aim and sees before them an intimidating large man starting intensely with bright energy emitting from his eyes as well as around his body and from odd markings on his body. Before the soldier could pull the trigger, the large man swatted the weapon from the soldier’s hand with almost no effort. This was followed by him grabbing the soldier’s neck and squeezing the life of them until eventually...dead. Aegis did it...he actually merged with another lifeform. He looked over his new form looking over it taking in how fascinating it is.“This feel so...exhilarating, but...I must focus on duty. I shouldn’t take this life’s body when they still have their own, even if it’s fleeting right now. Let me find somewhere safe to put their body and I’ll be on my w-.”

Getting to know each other

C: “I’m Colum, but some call me Comet!” A: “...Aegis. Aegis of the Astral”

-Comet introducing himself to Aegis

“-hat’s happening?!”, an interrupting voice from Aegis’s body erupted. Aegis realized that flicker of life may have been reignited from him merging with the human. He tries to calm the situation by saying to the other life, “Oh no...um, look, just calm down and let me exp-.” “Are you taking my body?! How are we both talking at the same time but also not the same time?! If it’s my body, why can’t I feel any limbs?! Am I just in void?! Wh-”, blabbers the other voice. Aegis didn’t want to startle this life more, but he had to calm him down. “LISTEN...um...human. Just calm down and listen to me.” Aegis felt that the other life within him will stay quiet now to pay attention. “Basically, I went into your body to give us both a second chance in living. After you helped me from the last soldier, I felt compelled to save you from what would have been my fate if you didn’t intervene. I didn’t mean to just ‘take’ your body like this, but I had to fight for both of us as you were out cold.” The other voice finally pipes up again, ”Oh...thank you so much. Since I can’t really ‘move’ my body myself right now, guess you really are taking it, huh?”. Aegis is a bit taken back from this but can understand their concern as he’s the one almost in full control. “No human, I’ll be on my way now…”

Aegis then proceeds to split them, but something isn’t quite right. As soon as they fully split, they both feel something different about themselves. Colum still looks relatively the same, but now his hair is snow white from his typical black and feels an odd sensation running through him like nothing before. As for Aegis, he still looks as he never lost his large human form but now his skin is grey from the human’s coffee brown. “No...no...no, this can’t be right. What happened to me?! What happened to you?! I’m so sorry...I didn’t me-”, as now Aegis is the one panicking until Colum cuts him off by flicking a speck of energy at his forehead. Aegis looks at Colum at confusion from his act. In which Colum responds with a shrug and follows up by saying, “Uh, dude, you need to calm down. Compared to before, this really ain’t so bad. Besides, I shouldn’t have been so hysterical from earlier. You did save us both. I even got powers! ...I think. Just don’t worry about it. I’ll try to not hold you up… I’m sure you got better things to deal with, so you can go now.”

After finishing from he said, his chippiness seem to have practically vanished and replaced for what seemed like a hint of sadness Aegis sees. For some reason though, Aegis felt more from the human. He knew that the human wanted him to stay. Similarly, Colum felt something from the alien. He knew that the alien didn’t want to leave. Both felt each other's pain. The same pain. The pain of being alone while trying to do something that seems noble but also goes nowhere. At the same time, both screamed, “WAIT!” From that, they both knew that merge must have let them feel what the other is feeling. Silence falls between them for awhile until Colum breaks it. “Uh...well...I think you know. Let’s get names out the way.”

Becoming something more

A: “I guess this bonding things isn’t so bad after all. It feels...nice.” C: “Hehe...yeah…”

-The duo chatting about being a Peacebringer

Roughly a month has passed since that night. Things have been going smoothly so far. The new duo have made a name for themselves as a new hero Peacebringer named Comet Aegis. They only done small affairs like saving (too many) cats from trees, hospital work, etc. Just small things as the got hang on the merged form. They even handled one actual crime pretty well involving a bank robbery...that is until they blasted the money. Still got the robbers though! Regardless, fame is fame. Colum has steadily been getting more art commissions from his hero name sounding similar to his nickname. As for Aegis, he kept his presence around the city a bit more secluded with only enjoying some things here and there about Earth. Ranging from mineral study and sudoku to plushies and pancakes.

Eventually, Aegis explained to Colum more about how Kheldian merge with hosts and how he was the odd exception until now due to his duty. “I figured as much,” Colum said, “I felt there was a reason why you had to leave that night, but I didn’t think it was something like that.” Aegis sighed, “Yea...granted, I’m still technically doing it here, but there’s plenty of Peacebringers as it is. That’s why I go to the edge of the universe to seek Nictus that are yet to be destroyed...” Colum could feel the intensity from that statement. “...but, that’s all I did. It was just the same thing all the time. I never had time to really rest and actually enjoy things until now. I was told to never merge due to how intense my duty was. No host could handle trying to fight and travel through space all the time. I still bad for merge with you...putting my burden on you now. Giving you this mutation, even when we’re separated. I wasn’t even supposed to be able to merge with others for that reason...I…”

Column interrupts Aegis’s rambling with a speck of energy on the forehead. “Aegis, look, I definitely understand what you mean now since we’ve merged, but you deserve to, y’know, live a little? I’ve done nothing but just “draw pretty pictures” and look at the sky all day. You, on the other hand, have done the polar opposite for your life. You may think this merge, no, bond is bad, but I think it’s good for you, for both of us. You wanted to have a real life to enjoy, and I can actually help others. So please...I just want ya’ to be happy.” Out of nowhere, Colum gives Aegis hug to comfort him. Not sure how to react to this, Aegis returns the favor to Colum, but from that, he does feel...warm. “Thank you, Colum.”

Personality

Colum “Comet” Clement

A free spirit with a knack to creativity. Colum can be a bit too free of a spirit. He prefers to just go with the flow for most things in life. Not letting the hang ups deter him too much anymore compared to his life back at his hometown. This also lends to him trying to always provide a helping hand typically in the emotional sense by lifting up everyone spirits, often with a drawn picture from him to help and/or as a gift. Despite all of this, he still gets quite nervous when dealing with actually socializing and not just cheering someone up. Preferably just remain as a “helpful neighbor” than a straight up friend as he tends to think he doesn’t have the will to do so, aside from Aegis of course.

Aegis (of the) Astral

Kheldian that holds a high sense of honor and duty. His personality is virtually non-existent from his deadset goal of eliminating Nictus in the far reaches of space and nothing more. However, being on Earth for a bit now with Colum, his colors are starting to show. Curious but cautious, he wants revel in everything that Earth has to offer to “live a little” as Colum puts it. He seems to have obtained an affinity for cute things that sticks out to his more serious demeanor. Similarly to Colum, his social skills is quite abysmal. While he’s not outright cold and is friendly and helpful, he tries to avoid conversation. If anything, it’s only to avoid being rude as he’s still learning about human mannerisms. He can barely muster much of small talk to even other Peacebringers.

Comet Aegis

The unbreakable bond of two beings. Typically, at least for Peacebringers and Warshades, the personalities tend to blend into one from the host and the Kheldian. This one is more “half-blended” sort of speak. Both of their personalities are still retained as well as their voices (subconsciously). Aegis’s influence comes in the form of his honor with Colum’s emotional empathy to hold a strong image as a hero to the public. Unfortunately, this also exacerbates both their social incompetence with generally avoid talking altogether unless necessary.

Appearance

Features

Between the three “forms” (Colum, Aegis, Comet), only Aegis and Comet share very similar appearances. Both have very large builds, white hair and beard, a scar on their eye, and bioluminescence emitting on parts of their body from huge stripe-like marks. The difference between the two being that Comet’s hair and beard is wilder while possessing Colum’s human skin tone while Aegis’s hair and beard is neater and longer with a grey skin tone. As for Colum, nothing really stands out for him except maybe his now fauxhawk white hair with blue highlights. Aside from that, he has a much slimmer build and smaller stature compared to Comet or Aegis.

Clothing

Colum and Aegis both have what they call “casual clothes”. For Colum, he wears a light cyan jacket, blue jeans with some ordinary sneakers, and a pair of googles. He says it helps while he gets used to flying. Aegis wears an open sleeveless military jacket with and surfer shorts with no footwear. While he can wear boots, shoes, etc., he tends not to as he likes to "feel" the Earth with his new natural form. Comet doesn’t have a “casual” style as he is usually formed when Colum and Aegis needs to fight, not so much to go around town enjoying themselves. Therefore, he typically wears standard Power Armor complete with Power Gloves and goggles, different from Colum's.

Skills and Abilities

Kheldian Powers All three “forms” (Colum, Aegis, Comet) have Kheldian powers but to certain degrees. Due to the Aegis’s supposed condition of not being able to merge with others, this one caused Colum and him to be caught in the middle in a way. Both are took half of the other as part of their natural form. Colum has half of Aegis’s Kheldian powers, specifically his blast powers and Nova form. Aegis kept his melee half of his Kheldian powers and Dwarf form plus Gleaming Bolt. The other half for Aegis is from Colum’s human half, giving him a human body as his new natural form instead of a blue wisp. However, both can become a blue wisp as well as split and merge at will. This also comes with the benefit of the “host”, Colum, to not be as vulnerable without Aegis around.

Astrology

Colum only has a basic sense of the universe. He knows more than an average person occasionally looking in the sky, but still nowhere near the skills of an actual astronomer with a college education. Aegis can be considered to actually be beyond that considering his time in space, but he probably wouldn’t be able to explain it per se.

Artistry

Colum has a talent and the education of art to make all kinds, well art, across various media. However, this does mean he won’t be particular better than someone who has a focus on a particular media (i.e. illustrator, graphic designer, 3D artist, etc.).

Kheldian Guardian Training

A curse or a blessing, Aegis was trained in the way of the Guardian of his people. This allows him to be immortal in which he doesn’t need a host to increase his lifespan. This also made merging an almost impossibility for him as all his energy was refocused for intense sustain and not to share for a would-be host. Of course, that’s been proven wrong from the merging with Colum, but it also has led to both sides getting odd side-effects from Aegis having all the energy suddenly dispersed between two causing both to having mutations as permanent hybrids individually but still able to merge.

Mineralogy/Geology

With his time on Earth, Aegis has gained a curiosity with minerals as it reminds him of the many he has seen around space. He’s been studying them as a hobby to know what certain ones actually are. Even going as far as collecting and trading them.

Equipment

Aside from having a cellphone, not much in the way of actual equipment. Colum usually carries around a tablet and laptop. The only other thing Aegis carries is a book called “Idiot’s Guide to Rocks and Minerals” for his hobby. Their Comet form has the Power Armor and Gloves that serves nothing more than just protection while the googles is just for show (Colum’s idea).

Weakness

As with all Kheldians, Quantum weapons cause devastating damage. This is made worse or better, depends on how you see it, as Colum and Aegis aren’t quite merged like your typical Peacebringer. By that, being split by force isn’t quite as painful or devastating as can they function as individuals quite well. However, when split, their not nearly as effective as their Comet form as each only have half of powers of their merged form. That being Colum with mostly ranged with Nova while Aegis with mostly melee and Dwarf. This made worse as Colum isn’t nearly as resilient compared to Aegis. Even worse for Colum as he is still as fragile as any human and lacks any skills in combat.
