History

The Early Years

Brian O'Leary's first memory is one of abandonment. His father dropped him off at the orphanage in Cap Au Diable, with the words, "Just can't take you anymore." He was taken in by the orphanage, another kid abandoned out of hundreds.

Life wasn't easy at the orphanage. Brian never really got along with the other children, fighting over the rare toy, or just fighting to act out. For two years, it was like this, and Brian became more wild and uncontrolled as the years went by. There weren't many people willing to adopt troubled kids like Brian, but that all changed when Michael walked into his life. A hard, old man who'd had a hard life and then forged his own destiny, Michael came to the orphanage for reasons unknown to Brian. And why Michael adopted Brian is an even bigger mystery to him. Whenever asked, Michael merely grunted and changed the subject.

Life With Family

Life with Michael was more like life with a drill sergeant who never left the army. 5 AM wakeup, calisthenics, school, homework, then more drills. It was as if Old Man O'Leary was trying to train him more than raise him. Or that he didn't know how to raise a son other than teaching him everything that he'd been taught. Brian attempted to rebel in the first year, and each time, Michael's force of will and logic quelled his rebellion. By age 12, Brian was adept in Krav maga, jiu jitsu, karate, and could disassemble and reassemble an M16 in less than a minute.

Over time, Michael also softened a bit to the boy that he had adopted, becoming more of a rough father figure than stern taskmaster.

However, Brian's streak of rebelliousness returned in high school, where he came out of his shell. He began making real friends, disobeying Michael at all hours, and being a general wild child. It seemed no amount of discipline could tame Brian's wild streak, and Michael also began to notice a bit of cruelty in the young teenager, especially in the way that he treated some of his friends, and played soccer, Brian's favorite sport.

College

Brian's rebelliousness came to a peak when he announced that after high school, he would join Arachnos and become a true warrior, like in history, taking what they wanted, and using their training to create a new world. A world where people like Brian, he believed, could make a better world. Michael was shocked, and appalled. He told Brian that there was no way that he would support this. Fights broke out, and finally, the old man made a promise. "If you can beat me in a fight, then you won't have to go to college. You can go join Arachnos." Brian readily agreed.

Michael beat Brian in four moves.

Defeated, Brian halfheartedly applied to Cap U, and got in easily. Michael saw that his adopted son would never forgive him, and made a compromise. If Brian graduated college, Michael would fully support wherever he went.

Brian went to college. There, he came out of his shell even more, drinking and partying, but also maintaining a strict 3.5 GPA, and a minor scholarship for soccer. After four years, he graduated with a degree in Biochemistry.

Brian then changed his name to Alan MacFinn, and then signed up for Arachnos. Still disappointed, Michael O'Leary announced that he was going to Colorado, leaving Etoile behind.

Boot

Arachnos boot camp was worse than anything Michael had put Brian, or as he was now calling himself, Alan, through. Live fire drills were common, and the deaths of his fellow squad mates were not uncommon. Also in the camp was fierce competition, ruthless to be the best, something that Alan had never really encountered before. He had always been better than most, now, he had to work hard for it. The trials that Arachnos put him through for those 12 weeks burned away almost any weakness, and what emerged from that hellhole called a camp was an utterly ruthless killing machine, and with the drugs that they had given him, a psychic assassin for the Widows.

Destiny

Once in Arachnos, life became more simplified for Alan for a while. He took orders. He killed people. It was good, satisfying work. Until he found out his name had been on the Destined One list. They simply hadn't told him, as they had more than enough super-powered maniacs running around. When he found out, he told his superiors that he would remain working for Arachnos. He was still loyal, after all.

Current Life

Alan is over Agenla. After finding out all about her life, and realizing that she would never love him or fall in love with him, he simply accepted it. He quit Arachnos, planning to make it on his own. Heeding the demon within him, he quit quite violently, drawing the souls of all the Arachnos personnel in the building he was in into a complex soul matrix. At the final count, he stole 300 souls against their will. Arachnos is furious at him, and he is currently being hounded by a strike team. After 5 days of intense battle, he, by himself, has halved their team.

Despite enjoying the test of his prowess and skills against Arachnos, Alan still craves something more. He's not sure what yet, but Marcus, the demon, whispers ideas of greater power, and greater atrocities to be committed.

Seeing his friends abandon him, and the horrible greed of others, he's slowly beginning to agree with the temptations of the demon inside....
