Damien Fawkes

One can't talk about Dante Fawkes without first delving into the complicated mess of his father. Damien was part of a top secret project near the end of the first Rikti War to create highly trained soldiers by developing their experiences in a simulation using the mental imprints of deceased soldiers, then implanting the personalities in the minds of existing soldiers, thus giving them years of combat experience without ever having to set foot on the battlefield. Somewhere along the way the process got perverted and they attempted to make them into artificial demons. Long story short, Damien destroyed the simulation world after a rather massive ordeal that has never been told, and managed to form his own physical body. He covered up his past with fake memories and even gave himself a human looking body. He never knew his own past until some emotional turmoil later brought it out, which also caused him to revert to his base appearance, the very appearance Dante has. Short version of the story is this: Damien had bad experiences with women. And everyone. He didn't understand emotions. Not really. He had to learn to figure them out and often confused lust with love. Until he found Serena. The two went through a rough patch which ended rather happily. In their marriage, and Serena becoming pregnant with Damien. Not wanting his son to grow up in the dangerous Paragon City the two moved out to a farm in the country to raise their child.

Enter Dante

Dante's birth was peculiar in itself. He only took a month to carry to term and was born rather painlessly and effortlessly for his mother. The even stranger part was his father could no longer summon his Spirit Katana. But Dante COULD. So the two trained him to fight and he took an instant affinity towards Damien's style. When he was old enough they sent him to Paragon City, armed with his father's sword and trenchcoat.

Dante's Life So Far

He has absolutely no luck with women. Even worse than his father's. Whether it be through general misfortune or his own doing it seems whenever Dante tries to talk to a girl... she has to leave... or they just want to be friends... or they turn out to be someone other than they were 10 minutes ago. But that hasn't kept Dante from trying to find his Serena.

But enough about that. What about his Hero Career?

Like his father he doesn't like the H word. He does what he does because it is right. He doesn't want the headlines. And the authorities would rather he stayed out of the headlines. His missions often end with a body count as well as an arrest record. He does what he has to do in order to keep the City and it's people safe. He has no delusions that he's "cool" for killing people. But he knows it makes him less of a genuine Hero. He just doesn't care.

Powers

Katana

Dante is very skilled with the katana. He's not the best by far. But he certainly has a lot of potential.

Regeneration

Like his father Dante can heal pretty much any wound, even complete obliteration. Because his body isn't fully real. It's a construct bound together by his willpower.

Data Manipulation

Dante, like his father, can reform data. In extreme circumstance he can destroy it. This, in theory, allows him to destroy people, things, buildings, even the world if he had the proper amount of power. It is not often exercised by him or his father though. Destroying data not only takes a lot out of either Fawkes but also leaves a hole in the world. And neither wants to know what would fill it, or if the world might collapse if nothing does and they make too many holes.

Affiliations

Dante belongs to nobody and no one. He has often thought of creating his own group of would-be heroes but decided that kind of role just isn't for him. Of course that doesn't mean he doesn't still think about it sometimes.

Hobbies

Dante plays guitar, and performs "magic tricks". Due to his origin Dante is actually quite magic-dead. His "tricks" are actually sleight of hand tricks combined with him manipulating the data around him to, for example, make playing cards spin in the air.

Weaknesses

Dante has a lot of weaknesses. Some are apparent, some aren't. He cares about his family, but knows his father and mother are better fighters than he is. So he doesn't worry about them so much. He worries about his friends, if he really had any, and what girls think of him.

Inspirations

Unlike popular belief Dante is not inspired by Skye Valentine. He is inspired mostly by a Shin Megami Tensei game called "Digital Devil Saga" and a little bit by a PC game named "F.E.A.R.", at least his father was. His appearance was inspired by a picture of Serph on the original box art that shows him on a black background and all that can really be made out is his face and a pair of glowing eyes. In the proper lights all one can see is Dante's eyes on his face. So it works.
