Radiation Blast: By manipulating atomic energy Sol is able to blast his enemies.

Medicine: Sol's knowledge of the human body allows him to carry out battle field medicine.

Flight: Sol's Jet Boots, as designed by Emily Todd allow him to fly around the city.

Abilities & Limitations

Sol's ability to control radiation allows him to limit it to non-lethal but debilitating bursts however if threatened he can lose control and kill.

Sol can become sick and suffer from injuries in all the same ways that normal humans can.

Sol has an aptitude for computer work (including hacking as a product of a geeky youth), a knack for researching and is an excellent cook.

Equipment

Sol has access to a pair of jet boots that allow him flight and a Well's Original Translocation Device that allows him limited teleportation.

History

[[Image:|left|]] It was on his 14th birthday that Solomon Stephens' mutation first emerged. He was on a birthday date with little Suzy Perkins and, being the smooth charmer that he is, had managed to move in for a kiss. When he began to feel a tingling sensation he put it down to the kiss at first. When Suzy screamed a second later he suddenly realised something wasn't right. Looking down at his hands Sol was horrified to discover his skin was turning green and faintly glowing. Suzy's continued screams brought the attention of a couple of jocks who instantly turned on Sol. They were lucky that the blasts that inadvertently came from his hands only signed the their eyebrows off.

Sol fled from his family's home, fearing their reaction to his new transformation. He was picked up off the streets two weeks later by Crey geneticists. He spent two years in Crey labs being experimented on, his powers being pushed to their uppermost limits. Finally on his 16th birthday Sol was able to escape when a pair of heroes attacked the labs.

Once more on the streets Sol was often mistaken for a Troll by police officers due to his green skin. However, one finally ran some checks on him and he was flagged up as a missing person. Within an hour Sol's parents had arrived at the police station and he was wrapped in their arms, with no questions asked about his missing years or his change. After a few months of therapy Sol was finally able to explain what had happened to him. A class action suite was brought against Crey on Sol's behalf but was quickly dropped when the lead witness, one of the heroes who had helped free Sol from the clutches of Crey, vanished in rather suspicious circumstances. The day after the case was dropped a multi-million dollar payment was paid into the Stephens' bank account, under the name of Solomon's University Fund.

Sol used the mysterious payment (which he now suspects was hush money from Crey) to pay his fees for attending Oxford University where he achieved a triple degree in genetics, biophysics and nuclear physics. He studied for a doctorate in genetics. Upon completion of his studies he returned to Paragon City where he took up a research position in Paragon City University's genetics department, specifically dealing with radiation and mutation. His position soon required him to spend long periods of time in Terra Volta. He soon became sick of the Sky Raider's frequent interruptions to his work and registered as a hero under the name of Doc '38 (38 coming from the year 1938 when the atom was first split and mutants created).

Recent History

Sol recently joined the supergroup Evolution-X partly to fulfil a geeky childhood dream of being part of a super group and partly as an all mutant supergroup is the perfect place for him to learn more about mutants in general.

Trivia

Doc '38 can be recognised through out Paragon as the organiser of many a dance party!

Doctor Solomon Stephens can be recognised through Paragon as the author of an article linking exposure to the reactor of Terra Volta to a fundamental change in a hero's powers.
