Handler Jack is the first and only remaining villain created by @Teikiatsu on the Virtue server. Jack was created in the inital 3-day prerelease of City of Villains and has undergone several costume overhauls in his 28 levels. Costume parts that have not changed since Jack was first created are the jack-o-lantern mask (always orange/black), the goggles, and the exposed brain. Other changes have been made over time and are RP explained as Jack rebuilding/repairing/modifying himself.

Background/History

Handler Jack could best be described as a present-day Frankenstein monster. Although details are scarce, it appears he was a Vahzilok experiment to create a new zombie soldier using parts from Rikti and Hamidon corpses mixed with Crey, Freakshow, and Praetorian technology. Shortly after his construction the laboratory was raided by Goldbrickers who made off with Jack. While his body and mind was in a coma, aspects of his technology were scanning, analyzing and compiling data.

Jack's body was passed along and/or stolen by multiple organizations for study or for a conversation piece. It was only when Jack was recovered by the Vahzilok that he was brought to full sentience.

Within moments of awakening, Jack knew he would not work for the Vahzilok. His internal memories were a mix of multiple choices and options that he had encountered throughout his pre-animation. The Eidolons in attendance recognized Jack's independence and felt it necessary to incarcerate him, then determine what should be done. Jack was thrown into a holding cell with scrap parts from recent 'acquisitions.'

By the time the Vahzilok realized their mistake it was too late. Jack had enough knowledge of Vahzilok, Freakshow, Crey, and Praetorian technology that he was able to resurrect the bodies of the slain to fight for him, augmented with modified weapons he had found, repaired, or built from scratch. In the ensuing chaos of battle, Jack escaped.

Jack wandered the Isles for weeks afterwards, avoiding Vahzilok scavengers and building his own macabre cybernetic companions. A chance meeting with the nefarious Abyst led Jack to the chance of gaining a home he could retire to and determine what his goals in life should be. In the meantime, Jack serves as technician and medic for the Seekers of Oblivion.

Personality, Motivations, Skills

Jack is both simple and complex.

His basic needs seem to center around building, repairing, and 'improving' the state of mechanical and biological systems. With time he can upgrade any system and make it efficient, albeit horrific in appearance. Jack's creations always combine a mix of machine and flesh, and with time the organic will decompose without fresh parts to replace them. To Jack there is no difference between a pump and a heart, a bellows and a lung. Tendons and cables are the same to him.

There is a certain artistry to his work, if one is a fan of Cthulu-like fan fiction.

Jack has no sense of greed or power-mongering. He actually wants to help people who are injured become better, though they may not care for the manner in which he 'repairs' them.

There is a certain child-like quality to Jack. There is also a burning need, a need to find... something. He is not certain what he seeks, only that when he finds it he may find his existence complete. And so he looks, and builds, and learns.

Powers

Handler Jack has no innate superpowers, but is able to equip himself with any technology or biological system he happens upon. He is also able to merge biological or biochemical weapons into devices he can then hold onto and use as grenade- or landmine-like weapons.

Jack's true power and danger lie in his intuitive knowledge of anatomy, biology, mechanics and engineering. He is able to make disparate systems of organs and scrap parts work together seamlessly as if they had been designed to operate together, if only for a short time. To Jack, there is always room for improvement.

Additionally Jack has incorporated the teleport technology of Sky Raider porter packs, as well as a short-use Praetorian anti-gravity field generator. See also his multi-tool below.

Weaknesses/Strengths

Jack, for all his knowledge and inventiveness, is in a perpetual state of falling apart. He must constantly repair and rebuild his form as normal decay and corrosion take their toll on his body. Jack is relatively normal in terms of strength, speed and agility, and weak in melee combat. Long-term he could theoretically live forever but only so long as he has access to "spare parts."

As an amalgam of dead flesh and spare technology he has redundancies for surviving attack. This stamina is a two-sided coin, as he is prone to breaking and feels no pain. Jack is able to withstand large amount of damage to his organics short term, but he will need to find replacements soon after or start losing effectiveness to his computational abilities. His mechanical parts are more sensitive to damage, but he has no qualms in dismantling any machinery or unfortunate soul he finds and jury-rigging a replacement until he can return to his lab. He prefers to avoid personal combat when possible, teleporting away if needed.

Should his personal teleporter and back-up hover systems be damaged beyond immediate repair, Jack has no options besides escaping to the shadows and slowly working his way back to any of his safehouses. He will throw his minions at his enemies without hesitation in order to escape.

Equipment

Jack has all manner of organic and technological devices and chemical weapons at his disposal. The one device that give hims the closest thing to what could described as 'pride' is his multi-tool; his left forearm. For most situations he keeps it looking like a hook, but when he needs something else he can change its shape with a thought. Made of a liquid-phase metal matrix it can assume whatever shape and function he needs, so long as he concentrates.

In-Character Trivia

When Jack and Abyst first met, Jack did not cover his face. Even Abyst was disturbed by Jack's visage and gave him the distinctive mask and goggles, declaring it an improvement.

Out-of-Character Trivia

Jack has been met with repeated reactions of disgust with his visual appearance on multiple occasions, both in-character and out-of-character.

Examples:

"oh good gawd" "that is not right" "aaaugh!" "it hurts too look at him" "okay, you win"

As such @Teikiatsu does not claim an official seal of approval, but is proud to currently have the Unofficial Ugliest Toon on Virtue until such time as it is challenged again.
