The Spirit of vengeance

The world was once very different than it is now. He came upon it, having witnessed it's creation and challenged the creator itself. His arrogance broke the world, nations that would be drifted apart and the taint warped the nature of the humans that were yet to be. A small part of the blame lies at his feet. A small part of the blame for all wars, all death. A small part of the blame for all charity, all kindness. but not much.

Furious at his impertinence The powers that be punished him. There would be vengeance they decided, he would BECOME vengeance. The very spirit of penance, vengeance and reprisal.

The world turns and throughout history his presence has been felt. But to those who have the arcane knowledge, to those with the power, he can be brought forth. A powerful tool, summoned through ancient rite, bound by no law, but by the LORE. Call forth the many named, the auld one. Call forth Iadessea and vengeance is yours, unavoidable, unstoppable, etched in stone.

But not without price.

To all men he gives equality in this manner, call and he will exact your revenge. Call and the tiniest wrong will be paid in blood. The wrong doer: destroyed utterly, their soul taken as due, their power absorbed, their very being gone in an instant, an instant that lasts a thousand years of torment. And when it is done, he is unsummoned, returned to the great beyond. Until the summoner dies. Then he comes forth again to claim his right, the price of his summoning.

1 Immortal soul.

The heavy price paid gladly by the righteous, and among the wicked... The practice of having another do the summoning.

History is marked with his work, if you know where to look. Empires have fallen, merchants slain, tyrants toppled. The Crusades brought to an end with the soul of a righteous man's desire. A world at war with the soul of a wicked man's desire.

Personality

Calm and unflappable, Iadessea has witnessed much and learned more. He finds human motivations unfathomable, and therefore beneath his notice. Civil and gentlemanly his demeanor can change without warning to a righteous harbinger of terrible nature. Older than almost all demons, and once having been more powerful his arrogance can take a little getting used to. Much history has passed without his knowledge, but he considers human doings mere background noise.

Recent History

Summoned to Paragon's Dark Astoria he was confused to find metal trees with lights atop them, shambling husks wandering the streets and a pervading gloom. His first words upon the face of the Earth for hundreds of years were: "What have you DONE?!!" Believing humanity had finally destroyed the world. His arrival drew the Master Magister of Paragon: Hekau who determined that his summoner had died before the ritual was complete, leaving the spirit of vengeance free to do as it wished. bound by the underlying goodness of the departed summoner, Iadessea finds himself compelled to winnow the evil that eats at the heart of the city. A task he cannot complete only half summoned. He also learns that without a soul anchor he is slowly dissipating, and fading from reality. The Sorcerer Supreme, agrees to try to find a way to release Iadessea, in exchange for his service. Knowing that unless he can be unsummoned he will eventually cease to exist. Iadessea agrees.

Powers

Half summoned, the pact incomplete, his power is severely limited, and he must find new ways to use his vast knowledge.

Much of his work now is done by the very souls of his victims, and his masters. The wicked, tormented in their final moment are brought forth as horrific spectral terrors, passing the horror they experienced to others. The good, having experienced a thousand years of pleasant reward, come forth a valiant phantasmal guardian. The souls of his summoners? Now ghostly slaves that battle at the will of the one they called forth. The price that keeps on paying.

As always the sheer force of his eternal will can crush even powerful minds into submission, and a glimpse into the madness of the abyss can blind even the eagle eyed, truely we are our own worst nightmares.

Forced by Hekau to obey certain rules, Iadessea has learned to provide succor to those in need. Those engaged in revenge against the same foes as himself. To this end the living, energizing power of captured souls is used to revitalize the injured, empower the strong and free their minds from fear and doubt. Though it seems unnatural, he can even restore vitality to the all but dead. though few know what fuels their sudden health.

There is always a price.

The pact unformed, he takes only what allowed, with permission, a year of your life. The energy adding to his power, sustaining him longer,
