This Page

((This page can be "seen" by other characters as being an internet blog. Storywise - an "internet blogger" was living in a building that caught on fire due to Hellion arsenists. He panicked and having no preparation for such an event he curled up into a corner awaiting his demise. He watched as one hero attempted to stop the blazing fire but was ambushed by Hellions who silenced the hero. Certain all hope was lost the blogger closed his eyes hoping it would all go away. He suddenly felt a cold breeze pass by him and he opened his eyes to find the fire had been put out. He rushed to the window and was met with the sight of Hellions put to sleep, hanging off of lamp-posts and some even in comas. He caught a quick glance at a man in a black coat flying from the scene. His life had just been saved and he had to know by who - so for months he began to research, devoting his time to finding out all he could about this hero and posting his findings on the net, and so this page was created…))

Kanik

Standing at only 5 feet and 7 inches, wearing black pants and a black coat, no visible scars, blue eyes, hair as dark as night, white baby-like skin, with little to no muscle or glowing aura - the man looks as normal as can be…and yet there is something about his precense that is terrifying and intriguing. The frightening part is that you don't know whether it is indeed his precense or if he's simply gone into your mind and made you think that way.

Powers

He essentially only has Telekinesis - the ability to manifest a force of unseen energy to move objects. Though he has mastered his ability to take it from simple levitation to complete domination of living creatures by tinkering with their chemical synapses - capable of putting a person to sleep, into coma, inducing fear and even controlling a person's every move.

Kanik cleaning house.
In addition, he can feel the signals being sent through the brain and can read a person's thoughts and also wipe a person's memory - though because he personally feels a person's memories make up who they are he chooses not to utilize those abilities unless he feels a great amount of hatred towards someone.

He isn't always accurate with his power, there have been enemies who he has unintentionally caused brain damage to because of him fooling around inside their brain.

Origin

Information gathered from newspaper clippings and police reports:

Two parents, a sister, a dog - he never displayed any unusual behavior, neither did his family, they just led normal lives. Though all you need is one abnormal event to turn a life into something far from normal. As a kid he and his sister would always nag their parents about wanting to go on vacation. The two kids would watch summers come and go where they would stay in doors while their friends went on vacation to exotic places - they wondered, "why can't that be me?" Eventually the family gathered enough money for a trip to Paragon City - a place known for it's amazing sights, the family set off on their vacation.

Freakshow Shocker attacking.
The first two days of their trip was grand - they had Gyros in Kings Row, took pictures of Trolls getting arrested in Skyway City, had a picnic in Atlas, even entered an all-you-can-eat hot dog contest in Steel Canyon, they loved it. Though the third day came, their trip to Talos Island. On the outskirts of the island they were getting gas, it was late, they didn't realize the farther you are from the center of the island the more dangerous it gets, or that Talos simply isn't the place you want to be when it's night. The family was attacked, immediately overpowered, by a group of Freakshow. One hero spotted the scene but the sheer number of Freakshow frightened him and so he flew by as if he saw nothing - didn't report it, didn't attempt to help - just ignored the incident looking to find a crime he could handle.

Ashame they didn't put the ruthlessness of Freakshow in the brochure. In an abandoned warehouse on the waterfront the family was locked up, in separate rooms adjacent to each other. They were tortured, the young boy forced to sit in the dark hearing the cries of his family as a shocker went into each room to electrocute them to death. Tears filled his eyes and rage engulfed his heart as he heard one Tanker brag about wanting to rape his sister before the shocker does her in. The boy's arms weakened as he heard his father's screams - the man who he looked up to - shrieking like a baby. And his mother, just hearing her in pain made his entire body numb. And yet they didn't enter his room - he had heard they were leaving him for last.

Two days passed.

All outside his room was silent, all he could hear was his heart racing, all he could see was pitch black darkness. Suddenly he heard a sound, "alright, he's next". Now, what happened next is still unknown to this day. Was it evolution? Or perhaps diving intervention. Something happened. The boy suddenly felt a full awareness of his brain, he could feel every neuron, could sense every transmission going on inside his mind - he could feel everything within his mind, and even more, could feel everything within a 50 foot radius. He was still in the room but somehow it felt like his skin was touching the floor underneath him, the door feet away from him, the bastards closing in behind the door, their skin, their brains, their black hearts.

It's said humans only use 10% of their brain at any given time, he was now using his brain at its full capacity, there was something inside of him that extended beyond his flesh and wrapped around him, a telekinetic field, an extension of his brain. It felt amazing...yet as soon as the door opened and he saw the faces of those Freakshow he remembered his family - what had happened to them - what they had done. In a blind rage he unleashed this newfound energy towards his attackers, towards his surroundings. Ten seconds, that's all it took, in ten seconds every Freakshow within the area had their flesh ripped off their body and their brains crushed, the warehouse walls flew miles away and when the dust settled, after ten seconds, all that was left was the boy and the wreckage of what he had done.

Mentor

The following is based on theories, testaments from witnesses and police reports:

Shortly after the freakshow incident the boy found himself in the center of a police investigation, cops wanted to know exactly what happened in there but the boy refused to speak a single word. He was simply too horrified by what had happened to his family and even more, what he had done, what he was capable of. Just as the decision was about to be passed to send him to an orphanage a stranger came to his aid. He said his name was John, claiming to be the boy's uncle. But the boy knew he didn't have any family left, and there was no record of him having an uncle - and yet the cops seemed to give the boy to this man, as if they were under some kind of spell or mind control where the man's word was law.

The Mysterious "Uncle" John
The boy played along, anything was better than an orphanage or whatever jail cell the cops had in store for him. Still, the boy had just lost his family and was reluctant to induldge in the kindness of strangers. They didn't speak until they were in the car.

The boy - "I don't have an uncle."

John - "Come now, you don't remember your uncle John"

The boy - "I don't know how you tricked those cops but you're not fooling me…I have no family left"

John - "I know…I know I can't fool you. You're very special, and I'm sure you know that, given…recent events. I want to help you harnass that power, train yourself to be more than you are now."

The boy's new gift was the result of the loss of his family - or at least he'd like to think it was - their deaths meant the birth of something inside of him. He saw his power as being their gift to him - of course he was interested in furthering his ability, even if taught by someone as shady as this "uncle".

The boy - "What do you mean…to be more?"

John - "You can move objects with your mind, you were able to slice through flesh and metal with just your mind - a feat even the strongest of men can not accomplish. But you are capable of so much more. You see, if you can control objects with your mind what's to say you can't control anything with your mind? A person's blood flow, heat, perception…will, you could control anything by mastering your telekinetic abilties. Reality itself could be your playground and your mind your seesaw.

I was like you once, a young boy with limitless potential. Though my opportunity at greatness was cut down short by those with no understanding of what I was, you though, you could be capable of the stuff people only dream of doing. With my help, you could be a god."

It was a compelling offer - to be a god. And the boy was extremely frightened by his power so the chance to keep it under control outweighed the shadiness of the whole situation. Who was this man? What were his motives? Was he evil? Was he good? Regardless…

The boy - "Alright, I'm in."

They entered a ran-down warehouse, old electronic parts scattered the area. It was dark and very shady, yet the boy wasn't frightened but rather intrigued by his surroundings. It surely was no dojo or police academy, was this really where he would be trained to control his powers? John led him to a pile of books and a model of a human brain.

John - "Lets begin with adjusting a person's synapses to put them to sleep."

Graduation

The following is based on a conversation over-heard by neighbors in Steel Canyon and witnesses on the streets.

One year had passed since the incident and the boy was still living with his mysterious mentor John. They had developed an almost father and son-like relationship. John taught the boy, who was becoming a young man, how to take a power like moving objects with his mind and turned it into an array of different abilities. In addition he also taught the boy how to utilize his ability against all enemies in Paragon, regardless of species or power. He even taught the boy a bit of engineering so he could utilize his abilities on mechanical humanoids, there was nothing he couldn't manipulate. Though the day finally came when it was time for the boy to do something in return…
Kanik fleeing from his former mentor.

John - "Are you ready for your first mission?"

The boy - "Mission? You never said anything about missions - I thought I was developing my ability to help people."

John - "You are, I'm sending you on a mission... to help people. There is man, his name is Blue Steel, you must kill him."

The boy - "What?! I know of Blue Steel, he's a hero in Kings Row, why the hell would I kill a hero, how would that help anyone?"

John - "The man masquerades around town under the guise of a hero, trust me I know first hand, he's a murderer, a man who will kill first and ask questions later…he's a menace who must be put down."

The boy - "I can't just kill him, I'm no killer, especially not a hero killer."

John - "Oh? Yet you killed those Freakshow with ease but this man is a serial killer walking the streets and you hesitate?"

The boy - "I thought we decided to never bring that up."

John - "You can't just forget the past - you killed those bastards cause they deserved it and Blue Steel deserves it even more, you can't just arrest them, especially when they're above the law, you must take their lives for the lives they've taken. An eye for an eye."

The boy - "You're wrong, you just can't go around taking people's lives, it's not up to us to decide, we're not gods."

The boy began to walk towards the door.

John - "I spent all this time helping you, assisting you to become that very thing, a god. I taught you, trained you, fed you, put a roof above your head and this is how you repay me?"

The door slammed shut and the boy was suddenly pinned against the wall via telekinetic force.

John - "I should've been training myself to reach the status you have, to create an army, a loyal one. Instead I helped you, someone who I saw as my son. And you were ready to leave me in an instant - betrayed just like all of those other mortals. I created you and it's time I…"

Before John's sentence could finish he was propelled backwards by the boy's power. The boy was freed and landed on the ground, John though landed on a pipe which pierced through his chest. The boy looked on in horror at what he had done. Then his horror grew ten fold as he noticed sparks of electricity erupt from John's pierced chest.

The boy - "You…you're not even human?"

John - "And now you witness the crime of Blue Steel."

The boy began to step back, the past year had been a lie - it felt as if another father was taken from him.

John - "The defiant prodigee…what more can one expect from a mortal?"

The Clockwork King as known by the masses.
A loud siren was suddenly blasted from John's body, a noise capable of making shivers go down even Statesman's back. Within seconds small robots, the murderous Clockwork, poured into the warehouse. Two quickly shot electricity at the boy who retaliated by propelling them away.

As soon as he realized an army was coming he ran out the door and flew into the night sky, shooting away like a torpedo leaving behind his mentor and taking with him the knowledge of his abilities, both feeling betrayed.

Four years have passed since then. The boy became the hero Kanik…while "John" became more publicly known as the elusive Clockwork King.

Personality

Kanik brooding in his usual spot in Pocket D.
He's faced much pain in his life though tries to mask it with a few jokes here and there, always trying to make light of a situation. He has a great amount of distrust in others as well as his own abilities - he knows he's powerful and very dangerous. He has managed to harm many enemies unintentionally through misuse of his powers and is cautious when using them against others, though his telekinesis has become second nature in terms of using it for grabbing things or moving about. He tries his best to listen to reason and is more for thinking something through then rushing it - though when surrounded by the right people he can be talked into anything including running into a group of thugs guns blazing.

He tends to team up with heroes as much as possible - not because he needs help but because he enjoys ensuring that other heroes out to do good will live to fight another day.

He can normally be found brooding on the same corner stool in Pocket D.

Trivia

Reading the paper while pinning down some Mafia thugs.
*Once received a toaster from an old woman who he saved from a burning building...he spent the whole day trying to find a place to return it to.
