History

The young woman known as Lily Wentworth was lucky enough to be born into a life of privilege and wealth. The daughter of a successful auctioneer, Lily's father was a part of what is now one of the world's largest suppliers of equipment to superheroes, Wentworth's Consignment House. Her father's operations however, were based in England and had nothing to do with superheroes, instead auctioning off priceless antiques to the wealthy. Her mother, Lyndall, was a nurse who was also studying medicine to become a doctor. With both of her parents extremely career focussed, Lily often went ignored, left to the care of a nanny, when her parents remembered to hire one.

Lily grew up reliant only on her own intellect, wit and cunning. This led to her maturing at an early age, losing herself in books, which caused her transition from fictional literature to non-fictional material much earlier than most children of her age. Lily would come to learn all she could about the world through books. Losing herself in her creative side, Lily would often daydream vivid alternate worlds that were as real to her as breathing. At the age of 8, her grandfather would give her one of her most prized possessions, her piano. She would begin playing almost immediately and took it upon herself to hire a teacher for piano and one for singing. This often became an avenue for her to express herself.

Having studied books of all kinds and being self-motivated, Lily quickly outgrew school which she deemed 'boring' at the age of 14 and chose to stop attending. Her passion for books and lack of social interaction also caused her to withdraw from the other children at school, often spending time alone. She decided instead to immerse herself in her singing and songwriting. Her songs were often very situational and were about things that she would notice about the world or sometimes simply to express how she was feeling on a particular day. Her piano teacher, impressed with her progress, encouraged her to record some of her songs. A demo was delivered to a record company who were impressed enough to sign Lily up to record a single of the song she had demoed. The song reached the Top 100 Billboard in the UK but peaked at 98. Her manager was impressed and tried to encourage the young artist to continue to pursue this as her career. Lily felt that a process which she once enjoyed was becoming too business like and chose to leave the professional music industry, instead choosing to play for herself and for whomever happened to pass by.

Deciding that she needed to work on her social interactions at the age of 16, Lily became involved with a group of young teenagers that would teach her aboout sex, drugs and not rock and roll, but alcohol. Her naivety made her easily susceptible to peer pressure and she learned all too quickly the dangerous side of all of the above. Finally coming to her senses, Lily left those youngsters behind and wrote a song about her disillusionment with young people and the abstract way they view the world. Six months after her 17th birthday Lily decided she needed to get away from Britain and decided to visit her aunt and uncle in Paragon City.

Losing herself in the wonders of the place known as the 'City of Heroes', Lily quickly began to make some new friends and meet new people. Two of which would bring her to an encounter that would quickly change her life. Not long after meeting these young men in the Atlas Park plaza, the Rikti attacked. Lily, not understanding the severity of the danger of her current situation, was caught in the middle of the fight. It was this event that triggered her latent mutation. After the fight had concluded Lily sought many answers to which neither boy could give. However, they were able to direct her to an organisation that would help her, the New Age Mutants.

Ever since joining, Lily has been quick to learn all she can about her power and has even displayed an interest in wanting to help young mutants who are also new to their powers. Her current mentor is pleased with her progress and does his best to make sure his protege reaches her full potential.

Powers and Abilities

Powers

Light Projection: Lily possesses a body-wide energy field that controls the energy levels of the outer electron shells of her body in such a way as to cause the cascaded release of photons. In effect, this field is lasing, with the apparent efficiency of a laser (99.9%). The released energy is far greater than the incoming kinetic energy and therefore must involve an outside energy source, the nature of which is unguessable. Left undirected, Lily’s light will radiate from her body in all directions, producing regular flashes of white light (white light is a mixture of all portions of the visible spectrum). By conscious control over the light she produces, she can control its direction, frequency (color), amplitude (intensity), and duration. Apparently Lily must consciously or subconsciously will the light to leave her body. Otherwise, light would “leak” from her at all times, even when she is asleep or unconscious. She can produce numerous effects with the light she generates. She can simply cause a bright glow all about her body. She can create very simple patterns out of rays of light like circles, squares, triangles, and stars. She can create a pulse of light on the order of several thousand watts seconds of power, which temporarily blinds people with its brilliance. She can create a chaotic cascade of sparkling lights and colors that severely upsets other people’s equilibrium, or a pulsating strobe-light effect. She has learned to manifest her light as:

Light Immunity: her body, especially her eyes, shields itself against any injurious effects of her light transducing abilities, and against those of bright lights in general
