IC Information

The well known freelancing rogue Mortefex' identity, famous for her ability to create sharp and pointy objects out of seemingly nothing, is a well kept secret. She works for both heroes and villains if the price is right, accepting payment in cash only, her usual rate being 10.000$ per hour though she is known to demand extra for particularly risky jobs. In the past nine years she did everything from bodyguard work, robberies, larcency, assassinations to outright open combat.

OOC Information

Mortefex is a female human bonded to an alien symbiote originating from an unknown dimension that has the ability to sprout metal-like objects including but not limited to spikes, blades and barbed wire. It doesn't provide her with any sort of physical protection, aside from being effectively waterproof, though is able to impart its natural "danger sense", nightvision and cloaking ability onto her which along with the ability to enhance the host's strength, speed, reflexes and agility a fair bit, makes the two of them almost impossible to harm. Psychics of any kind trying to read her mind will instead be redirected to the symbiote which doesn't appear to be fully sentient, given that the only thought it seems to have is "SURVIVESURVIVESURVIVE..."

The alien itself sustains itself by absorbing nutrition directly from Dorothy's body which leads to her eating quite a lot, especially after the symbiote has taken significant damage and needs to recreate mass.

It is nigh impossible to hit Mortefex, even for individuals moving at super speed, since the symbiote can pick up even on the intent of someone trying to attack them itself and warn Dorothy well ahead of time. Even those that can predict the future will see nothing but their failed attempts at landing a hit when doing so. This power, along with the redirection of any attempts to read the hosts mind, is based on quantum physics and with humanity's current understanding of the multiverse, can not be properly explained. While it protects the symbiote and its host very thoroughly, this power does not extend to allies, nor does it warn about anything else other than direct danger to them or about attempts to expose Dorothy's identity. It does not protect them from harmless "attacks" or threats to their existence other than the mentioned identity related one, like for example financial threats. It can also happen, that due to circumstances at the time allowing Mortefex to survive usually lethal wounds, for example if someone nearby is able and willing to medically treat the host, that the power just doesn't trigger though this is strangely inconsistent. For this reason, simply to avoid unpleasant setbacks and pain Mortefex usually does not carry a medi-port device.

While this may make Mortefex seem invincible, there are two clearly defined weaknesses that the symbiote has. The first, less problematic one, is that it absolutely despises extremely high temperatures and fire, even though it is not particularly vulnerable to either, basically just as much as most other organic life is. It is overloading Dorothy with warnings even when someone nearby does as much as think about reaching for their lighter. This results in her intransigently refusing to accept jobs that involve arson or otherwise being exposed to fire in any form. The second weakness, sonic frequencies above 45.000 Hz, is much harder to avoid and actually can incapacitate the symbiote when exposed to it for more than a minute, making it turn liquid and detach from Dorothy. While the symbiote can detect these and warn Dorothy, sound waves are unfortunately rather hard to avoid, especially if one, like the symbiote, can detect sound with every single inch of their body.

Mortefex' cloaking is rather simple. The natural dark coloration of the symbiote allows her to hide efficiently in the shadows but even in bright light it and its host can turn nearly completely translucent. While this makes Mortefex not entirely invisible, it does make her rather hard to spot if one does not already know where she is. She is however not undetectable via for example heat vision.

The enhanced physical attributes of Mortefex, while clearly beyond that of a normal human, are still far below the capabilities of some other super powered individuals. She can lift about one metric ton in weight, move at roughly 74 mph (120 kmh) and react within a time frame of 75 milliseconds. Her enhanced agility effectively makes her a contortionist. Endurance wise, she can physically exert herself for very long times without getting tired though this will cause the symbiote to 'burn' mass, resulting in the need to make up for this by consuming large amounts of food afterwards.

The metallic objects which the symbiote can convert its mass into, have a density of 19600 kg/m³, the same as tungsten though are far, far less brittle. The amount of pressure they can withstand are more comparable to massive stainless steel. While the creature can shape itself into almost any imaginable sharp or pointy object, for some reason it is unable to create any sort of armor or shield out of itself. Or maybe it simply refuses to do so.
