PERSONALITY

Mr Mirage's once jovial spirit has subsided. He is now distant and emotionless. Mirage has become more engrossed in cosmic events and paradoxes, and less involved in his friends' lives. McCoy has become an omniscient being.

POWERS

Mr Mirage's abilities were granted by the demon Miridiena in promise of fortune and fame. He honed his skill as the famous stage illusionist he wanted to be, and later used his tricks that once entertained the masses to terrorize those who threatened the city and its citizens. With his joining with the Well of the Furies, his powers intensified transforming him into a powerful, god-like sorcerer who will stop at nothing to protect the Multiverse.

ORIGIN

-Disappearing Act-

In the early 80's, Lucius McCoy was the top performing magician. He was the hottest act in the nation. Lucius began to wonder if anything could ever knock him off his perch of fame. Until one night while performing at the Morway Theatre in Paragon City, something went terribly wrong. For his disappearing act, he called upon city official Thomas Powers and his wife Evelyn to join him on stage. Lucius made Thomas and Evelyn disappear as promised. However when the two returned, something in their eyes told Lucius that his volunteers seemed disturbed. The Powers arrived home that night, kissed their daughter goodnight, and committed suicide.

Police brought in Lucius for questioning. However, there was no evidence to arrest him. The press caught wind of the incident and had a field day. "Magician Murderer?" and "Is He Guilty?" were a few of the headlines that filled front pages of national newspapers. The entire nation no longer trusted him, and his career was over. He fled to Monterrey, Mexico in exile.

-Homecoming-

After years of guilt, Lucius found his "magic" to be more than parlor tricks and began to use them for good to pay for his sins. He met the vigilante Lurid Shadow, who introduced him to M.A.G.I.'s international branch and together they brought down the enemies of Mexico. After the two cleaned up the country, Lurid approached Lucius about an archaeological dig unearthing a doorway to the forgotten city of Orenbega. (See "Ghosts and Demons".) After much hesitation, Lucius knew it was time to return and face his demons.

Now going by the name Simon Caine, Mr Mirage soon joined the Eternals. Although he aided them in many of their crusades, he still spent most of his time working for M.A.G.I. overseas obtaining mythical artifacts. During one of these missions, the Eternals were subject to a secret investigation conducted by the Central Intelligence Agency (C.I.A.), hurling agent Jocelyn Powers into Mr Mirage's direct world. (See "Close to Home".) However she never revealed her deepest desire: to kill the man who murdered her parents. (See "Dreams and Destiny".)

-The Plot Thickens-

Soon Mirage returned to Paragon City following the aftermath the Eternals were facing only to be sent on another M.A.G.I. mission. However this time, it would begin a chain of events that would change the Eternals forever. (See "Out of Time", part one; part two; and part three.) Mirage was sent to Prague to return a powerful artifact, which led to an uneasy affair with C.O.R.E. member Marina Tackys and a brush with death. However he did not return to the States empty handed. He had uncovered a villainous group (Infinites) who had their eyes set on the Eternals. Without the consent of Psych Ward, Mirage led a team to the Rogue Isles to investigate the Infinites' master plan. The Eternals failed leaving half of the team to escape to the year 1941 while Mr Mirage, Eden Spark, and Jocelyn Powers were marooned on Mercy Island. (See "For Tomorrow's Past: Prelude to War".)

-Love in a Time of War-

During the time spent in the Isles, Mr Mirage and Jocelyn Powers' relationship became passionately intimate. Though Mirage's guilt overwhelmed him, he could not bear to tell her who he really was. Like the other Eternals, Mirage and the others made it back safely to Paragon City only to find it on the brink of war. The Eternals were labeled terrorists causing the police to outlaw use of superpowers. The PCPD's attempts were moot as an army of super soldiers invaded the city. The Eternals joined with other heroes in attempt to defeat the army and were victorious in the Shadow Wars. (Video Available.)

-Trials and Tribulations-

Mr Mirage spent the next few years as the Headmaster at the newly Eternals Academy. After the loss of the young hero Bryan Long a.k.a. Golem, Mirage made a promise that no young hero would die again due to carelessness or lack of training, at least under his watch. He spent most days at the school as his former Eternals searched the Earth for heroes that had gone missing. The school flourished and its student body grew each year. Mirage's hands were not full as his friends Tempestorm, Sympathy, and Fleur de Lys aided his new credo. For awhile, he was content.

His happiness was soon interrupted when the Infinites kidnapped Azuria. With the help of a few heroes and Agent Powers, they were able to rescue her, but the Infinites' plan was much greater. They located the four pieces of the map which lead to the Fountain of Zeus. In a race to stop them, Mirage was able to track them down to a warehouse in Greece. At the same time, Agent Powers learned that the man she was hunting down for the murder of her parents was the man she loved. She shot him down in cold blood. Regretful, she allowed Azuria to escape with the dying Lucius McCoy before killing herself.

To save Mirage's life, Azuria sent a small team in to retrieve the Well of the Furies. With moments to live, they were successful. Mr Mirage fell into a coma and healed rapidly. After two days, he awoke after joining with the Well. He fled the hospital without a trace. He is currently being hunted by MAGI for the murders of several MAGI agents, and is being hunted down by the Eternals.
