Shawn Derrick Hale, born on October 20th, 1989 to Rachel and Scott Hale, was a child of Paragon. He loved the city, and he loved to explore it. Through the years, he came to find many of the back places of the city. On his first day of kindergarten, he met a girl named Kaylie. Kaylie and Shawn grew to be fast friends, spending much of their time together. During the third grade, a boy named Alex, who had moved in from New York forcibly attached himself to the group. Although he seemed to rub the two of them the wrong way, they grew to accept him into their group.

At the age of eleven, Shawn began to train in boxing at the urging of his mother and step-father, their reasoning being the city was a dangerous place and he needed to know how to defend himself. At first, he didn't enjoy it, but in a few short weeks, he couldn't wait each time he was about to head out to train. He soon joined a youth tournament and placed sixth out of thirty-two competitors.

When he was sixteen, another girl moved to Paragon City, from Texas. Her name was Winnie, and she would soon become part of their group. Together, they would go out and have fun or hang out at Shawn's house together. It was then that Shawn realized he had feelings for Winnie. He would go through a girlfriend or two - sometimes three - a year, and he certainly didn't lack confidence. But when it came to Winnie, he just couldn't bring himself to admit these feelings; he was afraid.

Just after graduation came an event that would come to change them all forever. They were spending time together as they always had, when a group of men came into the ice cream store they were at. Immediately, Shawn got a bad feeling about them and suggested they leave. On their way out, the men followed them and, waiting until no one was around, attacked them. They were all taken and brought to an unfamiliar place. There, they were experimented on daily. When it was all through, the four of them exhibited abilities of the four natural elements, fire, water, earth, and wind - Kaylie, Shawn, Alex, and Winnie representing each respective element...

On the day of November 12th, 2011, Shawn Hale and Winona Bran stood together and professed their love for each other in front of all their friends and families. Her father was undeniably proud of his daughter, satisfied that she'd chosen someone like Shawn and it was evident in his face as he gave her away to her soon-to-be husband. His mother had tears in her eyes; she was happy for them both and she knew that the two of them had overcome a lot to finally reach this point.

The day was the best of Shawn's life. He loved Winnie and she loved him, they both knew it, but it was now out there for the world to see. He remembered that she'd been so worried that things wouldn't be perfect and he couldn't help but laugh to himself. But, they had been perfect. All he truly needed for it to be perfect was what he had; the woman that he loved and the people he cared about being there to witness their wedding.

Winnie Hale - Although she was the last to join their group, Shawn always had certain affections towards her that he didn't have for anyone else. When he - and then Kaylie - left, he felt betrayed by her because she hadn't left either. They met once in the club Pocket D and he expressed as much to her. She was obviously hurt by his words, but he couldn't find it in his heart to take them back. Yet. After time, he softened to her as he learned that she wanted to leave too, but couldn't. Shawn decided to help her - much to Kaylie's disapproval. It was around Valentine's Day that he made his feelings for her known. He bought a horse for her and sent her a card saying so, but it had been from "A Secret Admirer". When they next met, she told him of this. It didn't take very long for him to confess and it was then they officially started dating. On the early morning of July 16th, 2011, he asked for her hand in marriage - which she happily accepted. They were married on November 12th; the ceremony going off wonderfully.

Kaylie Rubrich - When Shawn escaped, she left shortly afterwards and Shawn took it upon himself to help her. For a time, they dated, but found that their relationship was better suited to staying friends, seeing it more akin to siblings than to lovers. Her general distrust of Winnie has distanced the two more than ever, but Shawn still maintains contact with her. He hopes an upcoming meeting between his fiancee and his best friend will bridge the gap between Kaylie and both Shawn and Winnie.

Trivia

• Like around 10% of the world's population, Shawn is left-handed. It sometimes causes minor problems with household items (such as a computer mouse) between himself and his wife Winnie.
• His favorite sport is hockey and his favorite team is the New York Rangers.
• He loves sunglasses. Aside from the fact that he needs them when he shifts, he likes to have them. He has numerous pairs at home and is rarely seen not carrying a pair on him.
• Shawn has Swedish ancestry - his mother's parents lived in Sweden before moving to the U.S. and giving birth to his mother. He and Winnie actually went to Sweden for their honeymoon. His Swedish family may explain his above-average height.
