Sam is the first born son and eldest of the Colt twins born to Dale and Anne Colt. He is the only son to inherit the family's genetic trait that grants the bloodline the power of invulnerability/invincibility to all physical damage. This trait was possessed by his grandfather Richard who used his powers to create the mantle of the Peacemaker during WWII serving as a member of the Hero Brigade and his father Dale the second Peacemaker who brought the mantle to Paragon City, serving as a member of the PPD by day and vigilante superhero by night.
Dale Colt and his partner William Winchester retired from the hero life the day of the Colt twin's birth. Their final mission was to take down a small band of Arachnos soldiers beyond the Overbrook Damn in the Faultline district. They fought off a small group of invaders before returning to he hospital to witness the birth of the twins. During the battle with Arachnos a Fortunata was able to psychically enter Dale's mind and probe for information due to a weakness in his power that makes him vulnerable to mental/psychic abilities. The agents of Arachnos were able to extract Dale's identity and prepared for retaliation for thwarting their efforts. Following the birth of the boys which they named Sam and Shayne, the hospital was breeched by Arachnos. To defend his family Dale donned the mantle of the Peacemaker for his final time, meeting his attackers head on. In the battle against Arachnos a Night Widow unleashed the fury of her psychic scream against Dale, an attack that appeared to have lethal repercussions. As he fell to his knees and his eyes faded close a burst of light energy released and as the smoke cleared Dale and his attackers were gone.
The boys were raised by their mother for the first year of their life. On an alternate earth known as Praetoria a network of powerful psychics known as the SEERS foresaw a possible future where a son of the Colt bloodline would end the reign of their worlds tyrant dictator Marcus Cole. Marcus had the family of Praetorian earth eliminated but the seers vision of this alternate future still existed. With their advanced portal technology Marcus ordered a team of loyalists to enter Primal earth and assassinate the Colt family. A resistance group had formed on Praetorian earth and had caught word of this alternate future. The resistance used stolen portal technology to send 1 member to Primal earth to protect and extract the Cole family. The resistance member located Anne and her children at their home in the company of the Winchester family. The resistance member explained the situation to the group and details of their plan for escape. Anne gave her eldest son Sam to William Winchester while she went to the children's room to get Shayne. The Praetors had arrived and began their assault on the Colt's home. William accompanied by his wife and with the child Sam made his way into his former partner's abandoned lair beneath the house where he was able to escape. Anne was able to reach Shayne but was pinned down in the battle. The resistance member was able to generate a portal back to his home world allowing Anne and Shayne to escape back to the resistance. The resistance member was left stranded as Anne and Shayne's escape used up the remaining power to his portal. He was killed in the Colt's home by the Praetorian loyalists. Anne and Shayne arrived in a new and strange world under the protection of a small band of resistance fighters. To protect them the resistance sent the Colts to the last safe city of Praetorian Earth Shangri La. Sam was left behind on Primal Earth in the care of the Winchesters. He would be raised by the family alongside their own son Cody. William would become a father-like figure and mentor in Sam's life and would train the child both physically and mentally to reclaim the mantle that was his birthright.
Willaim Winchester pushed Sam to excel both physically and mentally to the peak human levels. Sam devoted his entire life to becoming a hero and reclaiming his father's legacy as the new Peacemaker. William and Sam studied the limits of his powers and exploited his weaknesses. Cody Winchester was also trained alongside his half brother with the belief that his father would allow him to take up his former identity of Cavalry. When Sam came of age he was given a newer modified version of his father's signature Peacemaker uniform. William too old to join Sam in the field gave him a battle visor that would shield him from psychic attack and also provide a command computer so William could monitor situations in the field from a secure command center. Sam's first mission arrived with the destruction of Galaxy City by an alien race known as Shivans. upon entering the rubble of the city he was directed by the Freedom Phalanx's Back Alley Brawler and Sister Psyche to the rendezvous point where the hero Blue Spectrum would provide him with further orders. Blue Spectrum sent the Peacemaker on a scouting mission past the interstate tunnel to search for the source of an interference with city teleporters used to save refugees. As he past the interstate he met resistance from a few aliens that proved easy to defeat with the aid of a few other heroes. Thinking they were in the clear the street then opened p and a giant shivan emerged from the ground. The beast unleashed a meteor strike from the heavens sending rocks flying towards the heroes. As they sought cover from the attack one heroine became paralyzed with fear as one meteor came crashing towards her. The Peacemaker threw himself in front of the heroine taking the full damage of the attack. When the smoke cleared the Peacemaker could be seen standing in the dust completely unscathed. He called to the other heroes to rally and combine their attacks against the alien invader. The heroes were able to send the beast back underground and opening the channels of teleportation to a city safe zone. Upon arriving in the safe zone Sam was greeted by the city's greatest champion the Statesman who presented him with an impervium shield known as the Aegis of Zeus for his valiant efforts in protecting the city before he entered a helicopter bound for Atlas Park.
