Personality

Missy is a stalwart girl that believes purely in doing what's right for the sake of doing it. She is unable to just stand around while people are in trouble, if there is anything at all she can do. She is often shy in crowded places, and is easily flustered. She is self-conscious and unconfident even at the best of times. She is also a country girl at heart, speaking in her solid southern accent, she attempts to be proper and quiet as often as she can.

Powers

Missy doesn't have much in the way of powers. She was originally made a hero for nothing more than her bow skills. During her stay in Paragon she has expanded her arsenal to include a broad sword that she wields surprisingly well, given her small size. At the same time that she gained the use of the sword, she also developed a cursory understanding of arcanum, using the endless powers of the nether to protect her in battle. Due to restrictions in the Hero registration process, she has been disallowed from using her bow at the same time as her sword and magic, being restricted so far as to have to go back to several of her older contacts to get herself back up to speed, a situation that she has not yet fully resolved. The last set of powers she has gained in her life are the powers of her mind. She has spent a great deal of time in Paragon denying that they existed, but she has since accepted them and begun training them so that, at the very least, she can keep from hurting anyone with them.

Natural

Missy is called Quick Shot and Quick Blade due to the skill in which she wields these weapons. Having spent most of her life on her own and in harsh conditions, she is in remarkable shape. It is likely that there is almost no fat on her body, a perfect sculpture of muscle and sinew, though she'd never admit to it. She puts most Olympic athletes to shame with her speed and endurance, a fact that she has recently discovered and used to convince herself not to compete.

Bow

Her bow is nothing special, just a piece of wood that she fashioned into the right shape when she was still a kid. She's trained most of her life with her bow, having been initially taught by her father when she was very young. Having spent close to three years on her own, with only her bow to sustain her, she expanded on his teachings with the construction of specialty arrows. Upon arriving in Paragon her array of specialty arrows has expanded a great deal, as well as her ability to quickly and easily fire a multitude of trick shots to disable without heavily injuring her adversaries.

Sword

The sword she wields is very special. It is made of cold iron and so worn that it no longer holds an edge anywhere along it. It also seems to have the strange property of absorbing magic, if only a small amount. She acquired it in Croatoa during a mission dealing with Red Caps, and it was the only thing that kept her alive during a three-year trek to escape the spirit world that had abducted her. When she holds it she is a different person, rushing into battle with almost no concern for her own well being, and letting her sword swing with abandon. Her confidence is absolute and her resolve unwavering.

Magic

During her extended stay in the spirit world Missy was introduced to the endless powers of mysticism and the arcane. The choice of tapping into the powers of the nether was probably due to her connection to her twin, Anna, who is a being created of dark energy. With the powers of darkness at her command she is able to cloak herself in protective energy to absorb blows, mask her presence and even drain the life of her foes into herself. She doesn't fancy herself an arcanist, though, and has not sought more diverse powers than she already knows, preferring to use the magics only as a tool, rather than a lifestyle.

Mutant

It has only recently come to her attention that she is a Mutant, a fact that she has taken great pains to hide from the world. She viewed mutants as unnatural freaks, and spent most of her early days in Paragon deathly afraid of them. She made many friends only to find herself second guessing the relationship upon discovering that the person was, in fact, a mutant. Now, with her powers in full effect she has had no choice but to accept the facts and deal with them. It has helped her greatly in her dealings with others, but she still feels poorly about the fact that she has powers at all, and occationally tries to downplay them to others.

Telepathy

The first power to manifest was telepathy. Initially she could not even perceive mental communication, before her powers started to manifest. Then after being bombarded with them from so many different directions they flared and she realized that she could actually talk to people mind from mind. Once she started she almost couldn't stop, visualizing ways in which to use the power and immediately mastering them.

When she found a teacher her grasp of her powers increased exceptionally, learning to enter a world of her minds creation. The Mindscape, as it was explained to her, is a quasi-physical representation of her psyche. When there she has no control of her body, and for all intents and purposes is in a coma. Inside the world of her mind everything seems and feels real, she can interact with it and any others he brings with her, or who enter on their own, and also be hurt by them. Initially she had no control over what happened there, but she has since mastered it, shaping it to her will, into an eden of incomparable beauty. When in a mindscape the control belongs to the owner of the scape, so much so that guests inexplicably find themselves drawn to the person, finding that person more interesting or attractive than they normally might. She has experienced this many times in both her own mindscape and from entering those of her friends. It has been both dangerous and helpful to her in many ways.

Psionics

Missy has only started to tap into this area of her mental powers. Her ability is heavily stunted, having denied the powers even existed for so long, but her training is coming along nicely. She has learned to blast a person's mind such that it clamps down, disabling the person's ability to function, effectively holding them in place. She has also learned to mimic the energies of those close to her. This ability has only manifested effectively with her adopted mother, allowing her to mimic the effects of radioactive energy to heal and weaken. She has even learned to levitate herself, even if only for brief periods, and only when she concentrated very hard. When she uses her mental powers extensively her appearance often changes as her mental aspect takes over, giving her the appearance of an angel, though it is all an illusion.

Character History

Before Paragon

Missy Parker was born on a ranch somewhere in Texas. The property had no neighbors for miles in any direction, and next to no visitors for the twelve years she lived there. The birth was long and hard, as her parents had not attempted to go to a hospital, or import a doctor. They were solitary people and, as can be the case without proper medical aid, Missy's mother paid the price for their lifestyle.

Without his wife and her mother to help, his only recourse was to do the job of raising their child alone. Unfortunately he really had no idea how to raise a girl properly so he did the best he could and raised her as he would a son. The first several years were tough, but they made it through somehow. As soon as Missy was old enough her father set her to chores, keeping the house clean, preparing meals and occasionally tending the animals. She learned everything she could from her father. He was meticulous in everything he did, from tidying to hunting: it was like a machine designed for the procedure. Every morning and every night Missy would help him to cook a meal and they were always spectacular, though she just assumed it was how food was supposed to be.

When she was eight he father started to teach her to handle a bow and a knife, and would take her out hunting with him, showing her the proper way to stalk their prey, how to take it down with the least amount of pain and injury to the animal, how to skin it and prepare the hide as well as the meat. They would spend days in the wilderness, hunting in the trees and sleeping under the stars. They took what they needed, and never more. Missy never questioned it, this being the only life she'd ever known.

Some time while they were out hunting, when Missy was twelve, her father walked off a ways in the woods and went to sleep. It was the middle of the day, but Missy didn't question it as her father seemed to need to rest more and more often these days. Several hours later, though, when the sun was starting to set, and her father still hadn't roused himself to prepare for the evening, she went to him. His body was limp, but it appeared comfortable. When she poked him to get his attention he didn't move, and when she moved in closer to him she realized he wasn't making any sound. Death was not a new concept to her, she had personally killed any number of animals, so when she realized that he wasn't breathing she simply leaned in and kissed him on the brow, told him, "Goodnight, dad," grabbed the gear and wandered off.

Her house had been the only place she'd ever known, but she knew without her father she wouldn't be able to take care of it. For most of her life that she could remember her father had been teaching her to survive on her own, so she felt it made the most sense to do that. For roughly three years she wandered the country, miraculously never coming on civilization. She crossed roads, but never saw any cars; she found occasional shacks or cabins, but never people. She lived off the land and survived, moving aimlessly until she saw it, like the Emerald City in the distance. Huge buildings surrounded by massive shimmering blue walls. Paragon City.

Life in the City

Within minutes of entering the boundaries of Atlas Park, Missy was witness to her first violent act in the city. A small group of three red-clad gang members were in the process of mugging a family, holding them at gunpoint. Before she even had time to think the knife was flying from her hand into the foot of the closest thug and she was notching a specialty web arrow as they turned in unison to see what was happening. In no time the three men were pinned to the ground and disabled, just in time for the police to pick them up. The family tried to offer her a reward but she refused and was overwhelmed as police and random journalists started asking her all about herself. She was brought to City Hall and registered as Quick Shot Kid due to her skill with the bow and her country origins. After thoroughly questioning her and realizing she was on her own without powers and especially since her weapon of choice was a bow they brought her to the people of ELITE who were able to present her with a renewing grant from the Sinclair Foundation. With the grant she was able to pay for a small apartment in Kings Row and, as her clearance increased, to acquire newer and better specialty arrows through the foundation itself.

Life seemed to be coming together for her. She was frightened out of her mind, and completely unsure of how to commence, but it seemed to her that this was what she was meant to do.

Servitude

Not all heroes are heroic. Not all heroes are virtuous, kind or humane. Some heroes are selfish and greedy, and barely better then the villains they defeat. To relax from what was effectively her job, heroing, Missy would often spend time in the newly reopened Pocket D. As long as she was able to stay out of sight, and in the background, she found it relaxing. She never danced, and she never ordered more than water, but she found the atmosphere and the music enjoyable. Unfortunately for her she never went unnoticed for long. She was a pretty girl, and the uniform the city had presented her with, since she didn't have a costume of her own, was fairly provocative.

The D accepts all kinds, but its dampeners are not foolproof, and without any powers of her own Missy was defenseless against those who fancied her. It was a young man who first took her. He didn't even realize he was doing it, but with his interest he altered Missy's perception and mind, removing her inhibitions and making her little more than his fawning doll, ready to please him in any way he liked. He took advantage of her, then left her in the state he'd created for her. It was in this way, having lost her fears of everything and knowing no taboo, that she found herself in the service of an Incubus, a male demon of desire. He molded her into his perfect slave, used her to lure more girls into his power, and took advantage of her in any way he could. To her shattered mind it was perfect bliss. That changed after running into the hero Liberty Eagle, during a party in the D.

After following her and her master to King's Row, First Child, who had accompanied him along with several other heroes, broke down the control that had been placed on her mind, reverting her back to her original personality. They ran off her tormentor then tried to support her, introducing her to Maggie's Rock, a children's home that would have happily taken care of her. She might have accepted the offer too, but for the fact that the Incubus' influence over her had not been broken when her mind had been fixed. His power was chemical in nature and she was addicted to him. She fled before they could force the issue, returning to a life of debauchery, but no longer content and happy. With her mind fixed she was horrified by what she was made to do, but had no way of escaping.

Freedom

After months of service, her Master released her without a word of explanation. Broken from the bonds that held her to him she fled back to the life she had known before, even if it had been only briefly. Again she found herself in the Pocket D, and again she was contacted by a telepath, but after long months of being subjugated by them she had learned the skill and could identify the contact and understand what was said. To her relief the contact was not malicious. In fact, it was an offer of help, to erect a barrier in Missy's mind so that no one could control her against her will again.

Missy quickly accepted, even though she was nervous and scared of this stranger, her desire to be protected outweighed all else. Together they entered a world inside Missy's mind that her companion, Nerefer, called the Mindscape. Nerefer told her that it was somewhat a representation of Missy's mind, and it would change as Missy did, but also that it could be changed on the inside to affect her on the outside. She went on to explain that while she could not change anything herself, she could channel her power to Missy, becoming a tool, to allow Missy to make the changes she desired herself.

Missy's Mindscape was a realm of almost pure chaos. It consisted of a square marble floor with random pillars, floating in an abyss of randomly floating particles. Nerefer gave herself to Missy, becoming the tool, and in doing so taking the shape of something that would comfort Missy. In this case she became Missy's father. She helped guide Missy's mind to protect itself, and in no time her Mindscape was completely enclosed in a bubble of sparkling purple energy. The bubble was charged by her own need to be free and uncontrolled, rendering her mind completely protected from any mind control, no matter how powerful, that was used against her.

True Love

Feeling confident, for nearly the first time in her life, Missy went out into the world to do what the city had asked of her, to become a hero. With bow in hand she delved into the troubles of the Hollows, making friends and contacts with the police that were getting overwhelmed there. She was sent time and again on missions to try and stop the gang presence in the nearly defeated city zone. On one such mission she found that she was not the only hero assigned to the mission. A man, another archer, joined her into the depths, and for Missy it was like love at first sight. His name was Adrian, but he went by the name of Raven Shot. His story, as it turned out, was not dissimilar to Missy's. He took up the bow after the loss of his beloved, a woman named Raven who had been killed by Hellions.

Missy's heart broke for him, in learning his story, and she endeavored in their continued working relationship, to try and heal his pain. The effort succeeded as went on more missions, fighting together as if they had a single mind and had been for all their lives. She had been smitten with him since the moment they met, and he soon fell to her charms as well, allowing his rough shell to crack and open up to her. It was pure bliss, and true unrivaled happiness for the first time in Missy's life, and she clung to it greedily.
