Sylvester Thomas
Sylvester Thomas was an avid astronomer, working for the United States Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C. When the Rikti invasion began, Sly wanted to assist in the only way he knew how: he would devote as much time and effort as needed to find the Rikti home world. He spent far too much time trying to pursue his goal, leading his wife of 8 years to simply walk away from their relationship. Sly took the break-up rather harshly, and retreated to his work in order to keep his composure. He was aided in his studies by a colleague of his, Lori Narra, and together they would spend day and night in their search of the source of the attacks. They would utilize any and every technology available to them, from gamma ray and x-ray telescopes to the simple ones that operated at night, endlessly searching the cosmos for answers. By a small bit of luck, Sly and his colleague noticed a small object in an apparent collision trajectory with Earth, and estimated that it was bound for Paragon City, ground zero of the Rikti invasion. Somewhat hesitant, they headed off together to investigate their finding.
Protostar
Protostar was a well respected and influential Kheldian on his home world. When the Nictus began to attack the Kheldians, Protostar was responsible in aiding several rescue missions to save captured brothers and sisters. Protostar was also essential to the defection of a number of Nictus away from their tyrannical leadership and corrupted ideals. There was one Nictus in particular, a fairly young one that went by the name of Kayas, whom he decided to personally monitor and protect. This decision essentially removed Protostar from the battlefields and into more of a mentor capacity. He sensed great power in Kayas, and did not want her to return to the Nictus regime, no matter the cost. Protostar is given orders from his superiors to flee the war-stricken planet and take his understudy with him to the planet Earth, where he is to report to Sunstorm for further details. Together, Protostar and Kayas venture forth to Earth, placing themselves into a stasis-like state in order to make the long and arduous journey.
