Personality

Nicholas is a bit of an actor at times, a mixture of glory-hound and a showoff. He plays to his 'sky pirate' persona, enjoying the attention it can give him. he is heavily image conscious, liking the way it can attract a crowd. When off-camera or without an audience he usually gets down to business: his military training kicking in. Occasionally barking orders at his team, or advice, especially to those he see's as acting ineptly.

When in more relaxed times, he tends to act like a bit of a goof or joker, he is one who loves life for what it brings and loves to smile or laugh.. even if it is at his own expense, even joking about his own habits.

Lastly, he is fierly loyal: having been abandoned once for what he is it is further reinforced. Also, he tries to be as accepting as he can.

History

Nicholas D. Avias used to be a corporal in the Sky Raiders. He was a successful one at that: a weaponmaster in their ranks. His genius with weaponry helped give the sky raiders a technical edge with their guns, armor and munitions. His father was a Sky Raiders Sergeant, an ex-soldier who along with many after the first Rikti war, grew dissatisfied with the governments reliance of super heroes, feeling that the honest soldiers of the country were being neglected and placed in third party status. He, along with many soldiers, abandoned their posts and country sometime after the Rikti war and went rogue. Nicholas's mother divorced and left his father because of this, and Nicholas was left with his strict father, who pressured him into training. He was eventually drafted into the Sky Raiders by his father.

A bit of a dreamer, Nicholas justified all this to himself by taking on a 'daring rogue' type image and making the best of this situation. He buried himself in study, when not on duty, learning a lot abou weaponry, weapons systems, armor techniques and munitions. He served in their ranks from his 18th birthday to his 22nd, missing out on a lot of other education due to this, he studied part time on his own through many self-learning programs. His time with the sky raiders was tough, he was involved in many operations as a Wing Raider, where his skill manifested. He was simply put, amazing with a Jetpack, and this skill earned hm promotion to corporal, where he was put in charge of a small squad of four other young hopefuls that were known as the Vultures, known for picking off weak robbery targets and making fast getaways.

There was a reason for his leaving of the Sky Raiders. Not only was Nicholas not cut out for this style of life: he had morals. However there was one reason that he was outed that was contrary to the Sky Raider ideals: he was a mutant. His mutation manifested on his fifteenth birthday, though it was subtle. Nicholas started losing a lot of weight, though visibly he remained fine. The occasional trips to see a doctor just resulted in diet advice and a couple of fruitless scans and blood samples, all of which showed him to be healthy. Nick began to suspect something else when he started to find himself able to affect the air around him subtly. Thankfully, for him: his mutation remained quite subtle till his 18th birthday when his eyes sharpened considerably and he developed super telescopic vision. His eyes also changed and became akin to those of a bird, resulting in him wearing contacts, shades or goggles to hide this mutation. His squad just took it as another of his eccentric pirate / daredevil image tokens.

Alas, around his 22nd birthday things took a turn for the worse for him. During combat with Arachnos agents during a heist gone wrong he found himself in a brawl with an arachnos Wolf Spider. His mutant instincts kicked in as due to his lightweight frame he was getting kicked around quite easily by the stronger wolf spider and he resorted to using a move that would become one of his trademarks: he compressed air around his fist and punched the wolf spider, releasing it in a hefty burst which sent the wolf spider flying back. New to the use of his powers, he mistook the force that would be needed to even things, and sent the soldier back around 20 feet in view of the rest of his squad. Questions after the battle led to accusations and investigation. Super powes were contrary to everything the Sky Raiders believe in and fight for.

It was only his fathers interventon in organising his escape from them that likely saved his life, as he was in too deep and knew things that were too sensetive. Smuggling him his jetpack, a canister of fuel along with an escape plan he hatched a plan to get his son out. Unfortunately his father was under observation during the investigation of his son, and he was spotted. His fathers gambit turned to sacrifice to save his son, after being discovered during his escape his father created a diversion during the gunfire that cost him his life, through the use of explosives on the Sky Raiders jetpack fuel stores, sealing off the possibility of persuit.

After his escape, Nick found himself alone in a city that was often hostile to him. He did the only thing he could think of to do: he went to the authorities as an ex Sky Raider and gave himself in. During his trial he agreed to give the authorities all the information he had for leniency. The court took pity on him: forced into a life against his will, his guilty plea along with his offer for help. As a mutant he was given three years community service under Hero Corps as long as he registered as a Hero, along with a place to stay and some degree of protection. Nickolas gladly accepted: the life of a Hero was one that appealed to his dreams and oft-abused sense of justice.

Over the past two years he has been workin as a registered Hero: he is a popular Hero with Hero corps: his dashing sky pirate image making him a popular choice for work and photo shoots.

Powers

Sky Vulture posesses an avian skeletal and muscular structure: he is much lighter than a human. he has also grown a pair of wings, able to fly with them with the grace of a bird of prey. Rumors are, that he has not grown enough feathers to fly yet: and is only able to do so due to the wing-armor he wears at all times.

Sky Vulture is able to manipulate the air around him at close quarters, and utalises such feats as using it to speed is movements, or to deflect incoming attacks. His main trick is compressing it to use in bursts as attacks. He can nearly instantly compress it over his fist and release it as he punches to send his foes flying for impressive distances. he has also recently developed the ability to fire these bursts of air at range.

Sky Vulture has the sight of a bird of prey: his vision being telescopic, able to see in perfect detail great distances.

Equipment

Nicholas wears a suit of personal lightweight armor devised from an alloy he knows how to create from his time in the sky raiders. It is an ultra-lightweight metal that is much stronger than steel, though far lighter. Designed to dissipate impacts along its surface, it is highly protective. On his wings he wears a similar armor type, styled after feathers that is able to give him lift while protecting them from harm.

RP Notes: As of January, Sky Vulture has gone missing. All attempts to communicate with him have drawn a blank.
