Starblock (real name Elliott Block) is a nineteen-year old registered hero patrolling the streets of Paragon City. While he was identified as a mutant at a young age, it was not until recently that he manifested any significant power. Until a few months ago, his unique genetic markers had been noted as little more than a "biological curiosity" in his medical files. It was not until he quite accidentally foiled a robbery at a convenience store that his abilities became known to him. After his discovery (and a few weeks spent honing his basic skills), he successfully registered as a hero licensed to patrol in Paragon City, fulfilling his childhood dream to become a superhero.

In-game Biography

Elliott Block's life was forever changed at the young age of six, when he and his family were kidnapped and tortured by a group of villains and held captive in the sewers under Paragon City. The perpetrators and their motives remain unknown to Starblock, although it seems likely that they wanted something from his father, a renowned physicist. A group of superheroes was able to locate his family and, while they were too late to save Starblock's father, they were able to rescue Starblock and the rest of his family.

Elliott suffered the most severe physical wounds of the survivors. His face and upper body were irreparably scarred, and he suffered internal injuries which necessitated numerous emergency surgeries, and the eventual removal of a kidney. His recovery was aided by an Empathic member of the super-group that saved him. With her assistance, Elliott was able to live on with a "normal" childhood, despite his scarring and traumatic experience. He idolized the heroes who saved his life (especially the Empath who guided his recovery), which led to a desire to one day be a hero himself.

While his family suffered fewer physical injuries, they did not fare so well emotionally or psychologically. Elliott benefited from having a young, still-malleable mind, advantages his mother and older brother did not share. His mother grew distant from her children, and his brother became a rather troublesome child, eventually running away from home at the age of sixteen. Neither Elliott nor his mother has heard from him since then. Since Starblock's discovery of his powers and subsequent decision to become a hero, his mother's apathy towards him turned into disapproval; she has recently moved away from Paragon City.

Personality

Despite his traumatic history, Starblock is a generally optimistic, friendly individual. He credits this to the therapy he received after the kidnapping incident, and the bonds that grew between himself and the Empathic hero. Since his invitation to join Teen Phalanx, he has become a fiercely loyal friend to Yellow-Bee, Semjaza, and Kaleiope. He prefers to trust their judgement over his own, allowing them to lead. He does not share this same loyalty towards States Lad, the leader of Teen Phalanx at the time of his initiation.

While Starblock has a generally positive outlook on life, he is still uncomfortable showing his face to most people, as the scars he received as a child were never able to be healed. He is usually seen wearing a mask which covers his entire head; few among even his close colleagues have seen him out of uniform.

Storylines

During a recent mission to the reactor in Terra Volta Starblock received non-trivial doses of radiation, which seems to have aggravated his mutation. Since the incident, his ability to manipulate kinetic and gravitational forces has increased greatly, both in magnitude and in finesse. These rapid changes have been causing him a great deal of pain, which he tries to hide from his colleagues.
