Legacy of the Anemoi
Boreas' powers stem from an ancient bloodline from Greece. This bloodline is that of the Anemoi, which can be traced back to the four brothers Boreas, Zephyrus, Notus and Eurus. These four where known in ancient Greece as the wind gods, or Anemoi. Back then Magic was not as well studied as it is now and people revered them for what they could do. Each of the brothers powers differentiated slightly from the others. As Notus was able to able to whip up the most violent and destructive winds in an instant, while Zephyrus worked through subtle breezes over long timespans. Eurus and Boreas were opposites as well, where Eurus brought warmth, Boreas brought the cold winds of the north.
How their powers originated was lost in time, but it probably involves the mythical Fountain of Zeus.
