The Green Wraith (and the "The" is indeed part of his name, which is a half-joke about the way NPCs drop the "The" when addressing people) is a level 50 kinetics/energy defender on the virtue server, and the main character of the player "Sween."

He's an amalgam of a variety of different influences, most noticably "Black Suit" Spiderman.

(With the exception that the symbiote in this instance is less hyperaggressive and controlling, and more of cross between the HEV suit from "Half-Life," and a puppy.)

Personality

The Green Wraith is somewhat reluctant to call himself a hero, citing that there are "Hundreds of people who've never touched spandex in thier lives that deserve that label, and hundreds more flying above our heads right now that don't."

Though his powers are based mostly on ranged attacks, he prefers to be in the front lines, and quite often pays a painful physical price for it. However, due to his sheer bull-headed tenacity (and, most importantly, his remarkable healing factor), The Green Wraith is known for often subduing foes far larger and stronger than he.

His fighting style reflects his personality: intractable, often darkly humorus, but with an indomitable force of will.

Character History

The Green Wraith was originally nothing just a thought bounced around in my head as nothing more than "an interesting idea for a comic book," having had no more amount of fleshing out than in a half-assed rush job in a character design class. He and the characters that are related to him are one of the major reasons I got into the game "City of Heroes," as it was finally a medium from which I could actually do something enjoyable and worthwhile with a character that had been banging around in my head for years, begging to get let out.

Archer Samuels is a hero from another dimension, one where superheroes are nowhere near as common as they are in Paragon City (he is, in fact, one of approximately a half dozen or so humans with any form of superpower whatsoever). As a result, the idea of costumed vigilantes is not as widely embraced as it is in Paragon, and as a result Archer has been at odds with the police, and even the military, on more than one occasion.

After an especially large exploit (one that he refuses to go into much detail about, citing that it's "way to complicated, and I don't have a chalkboard handy.") that forced his existance into the public eye and would inevitably bring up an investigation into exactly who and what he was, Archer and his various associates saw the need to disappear for some time while the world cooled down in thier fervent interest in this apparent superhero.

Employing a dimensional portal developed by the Alien Race known as The T'Lar (of which Archer's close friend The Sha K'ar is a member), Archer gathered a group of his associates (a small contingent of the aforementioned aliens, and his son from an alternate universe, Jobe), Archer sought out a pastoral, uninhabited version of earth, specifically requesting "One where we won't be noticed, and one where we won't have to save the world from something or the other."

Unfortunately, The T'lar at the controls (a brilliant but flighty intern) interpreted his wishes as "A place where there are lots of people like us, so they won't care we're superheroes, and we won't HAVE TO save the world from something or another because THEY'LL be able to do it," and selected Paragon City, Rhode Island.

After finding out exactly where they landed, it was generally agreed that Paragon Earth needs all the help it can get, and have since set up a permanent base of operations in this dimension, with access to thier own in case they are needed there as well.

Archer, jokingly, calls the entire experience "a working vacation."

Powers

Energy Manipulation

Archer is a mutant, with the ability to absorb electrical, thermal, and chemical energy from all manners of sources (including people), and redirect that energy in the form of blasts of energy similar to a high-intensity particle beam. He can also focus this energy internally, resulting in an incredibly powerful healing and restorative ability, which can be used on others as well as himself. Wounds that are normally fatal or life threatening can be healed at nearly an instant, so long as Archer can focus his energies on a proper target.

"The Suit"

Archer is in possesion of a suit of nanoarmor, given to him by his friends and close associates, the aliens known as The T'Lar. This armor (based on a multi-purpose hazmat suit) consists of billions of nanomachines interwoven by long, tentacle-like fullerene threads, and contains a sentient gestalt personality with the intelligence of a very clever monkey. The suit itself (called "The Suit" by Archer, as he feels it really doesn't need any other name, and has displayed no desire to be called anything else) resembles a large blob of silver and green liquid when Archer is not wearing it, and resembles a large green and silver biomechanical insect when he does. It also can serve as clothing, and knows how to mimic several different forms of cloth, though it prefers not to, as flapping in the wind makes it feel uncomfortable.

The Suit draws it's power directly from Archer, and serves as multipurpose powered armor, reinforcing not only Archer's strength, speed, and durability, but also acting as a communication device, targeting aid (with multispectral vision capability and HUD showing Archer's (and therefore the suit's) remaining power supply), optical camouflage, and life support system (performing even in hard vacuum).

There is one small disadvantage to The Suit, being that, since it clings to Archer like a second skin instead of draping like cloth, Archer must wear pants on the outside of the suit at all times, to avoid what he calls "embarassing bulging issues." After several rather awkward moments after a large explosion destroyed his pants, Archer has interwoven some of the suit's nanorobots into the weave of the cloth, to act as cloth repair units.

"Energy Sense"

As a result of his mutation, Archer has developed the ability to sense electrical, chemical , and thermal energy, to the point where he can actually distinguish individual people by thier energy signature alone. Being entirely unable to describe the sensation of his energy sense to others ("imagine trying to explain to a blind man how the color blue tastes"), he often subconsciously equates it with a smell, usually of some eclectic combination of foods.

Superhuman Strength, Speed and Leaping

Archer is also able to absorb the kinetic energy from objects, increasing his (and others as well) speed and maneuverability. This ability is actually enhanced by his suit, which is equipped with gravatic compensators which manipulate the gravity field around Archer's body. This enables him to leap hundreds of feet into the air with little ill effects, move and attack at superhuman speeds, and lift several tons with little effort. He often uses this ability on enemies, slowing thier actions down to a crawl and speeding his own, using it in conjunction with his suit's optical camouflage to disappear and reappear in different areas, intimidating his foes. It's this ability that is the basis of his hero name: The Green Wraith, a mysterious green figure that descends out of nowhere and drains the life out of his enemies, leaving them debilitated, disoriented, and afraid.

Weaknesses and limitations

While a formidable opponent, Archer is not without his weaknesses:

- For reasons wholly unknown to him, Archer cannot sense magical energy at all. He can see a Demon, for example, as clearly as anyone else with eyes (as magical beings and items reflect light just as anything else does), but if that demon were to cast a spell redering itself invisible, he would be helpless against it. As a result, Archer is incredibly distrustful (bordering on fearful) of magic and magic users.

- Archer's energy reserves are finite, and if drained of them completely he will lose all of his superhuman abilities until able to replenish himself. If one were to completely drain Archer of all of his energy reserves, it is entirely possible to kill him with a single well placed gunshot. Keeping Archer's energy reserves dry is incredibly difficult, as he has trained himself to absorb small amounts of energy from ambient heat and light, but a Malta Sapper's Energy weapon can come very close.

- As powerful as Archer's healing ability is, he's still human, and experiences pain and takes damage just like a normal human would. Stack up enough powerful attacks (ones that his suit cannot fully turn aside), and you can easily take him out of action from the sheer pain of the mounting injuries.
