Background

Standup Girl was a timeline copy of another woman who once went by that name. In an attempt to give the former heroine a better life, a time traveller altered Kari Larsen's personal timeline at a crux in her life, before it all began to go downhill. However, due to complications, that timeline was not CHANGED but COPIED and SKEWED, resulting, essentially, in an earlier backup version of Kari Larsen appearing in the present, 10 years younger than the original.

The young Kari was a complicated wonder of temporal science: an almost impossible paradox that seemed to be stable. However, in the end, the space-time continuum could not support both the copy and the original. Friends of the young Standup Girl attempted to repair the timeline without destroying her, but were only partially successful.

The memories and thoughts of Standup Girl, Katherine "Kari" Larsen II were transposed into the mind of a girl with a remarkably similar history, Catherine "Cate" Larson.

Owing to her new body, (unfortunately lacking most of the mutant powers she once possessed) new name, new age, and new history, she no longer felt comfortable carrying the name of Standup Girl. She retired the name and costume and moved on to being "the snapstring kid."

Personality

Standup girl was a spunky, opinionated, precocious and brilliant kid. She was constantly making jokes, and rarely took anything seriously. She wanted nothing more than to be taken seriously, however, and these two traits were often at odds with each other. She didn't appreciate being treated like a kid, and especially hated being judged by appearances
