History

Heroic Legacy

Grandmother - The Original Copper Rocket

Clayton Morris’ grandmother Kathy Clay took first took on the identity the Copper Rocket during World War II while traveling with the USO as a fresh-out-of-high-school 18-year old. While she had no special powers, she was a world-class gymnast and athlete. She served with the supergroup The Allied All-Stars through the War and married her wartime sweetheart Harold Morris in 1945. She continued to sporadically don the costume into the 50’s, but at some point she settled down to spend more time with her young family.

Mother - Copper Rocket II

In 1963, Kathy’s oldest son Jack married Melissa August, a young athlete and student. During the courtship, Kathy and Melissa grew close, and later that year Melissa asked Kathy for her blessing to take on the mantle of the Copper Rocket. Kathy couldn’t have been more proud.

Melissa served as the second Copper Rocket valiantly, even serving in the supergroup The Infinity Elite. She even served briefly as the organization’s first chairwoman. Unfortunately, it was during that time she was forced to disband the legendary group for opposing the government’s insistence that they involve themselves in the Vietnam War. Melissa soon retired the Copper Rocket identity and settled into a “normal” life focusing on her career as nuclear physicist.

Growing up a Hero

Clayton was born late in Melissa’s life. His childhood was unremarkable until puberty. Then, Clayton began to display his remarkable speed, agility, and regenerative gifts. When the Rikti invaded, Clayton wanted to use his new powers to assist, but Melissa forbid him from doing so since he was too young and untrained in the use of his abilities. Melissa told young Clayton of his historic legacy and began training him in basic skills she felt he would need.

Clayton was disappointed that his mother never deemed him ready during the conflict, but was thrilled when Paragon City opened her doors to heroes of his ilk. With his mother’s blessing, Clayton registered as a hero in Paragon and took the name Throttlerocket, both to honor his family’s legacy but still carve a niche of his own.

The Gods of the Golden Age

Upon his arrival in Paragon, Clayton quickly became a prominent hero. He sought out the group that stood for the same ideals he was raised to believe in - The Gods of the Golden Age. Upon acceptance, Clayton quickly established himself as a brave and valiant hero. He shared a brief flirtation with a fellow heroine by the name of Colossal Girl. Unfortunately, the constant pressure of his heroic legacy began to wear upon him and Clayton soon succumbed to exhaustion. He left the group in good standing but didn't give his reasons.

The Return

After a much needed rest, Clayton returned to Paragon City seeking to strike a greater work/life balance. He was devastated to learn that his romantic interest has started a relationship with Hyperion Shield in his absence. Throttlerocket threw himself into his work and canvased the city in what seemed to be an endless patrol. He, Colossal Girl and Hyperion Shield have since resolved their differences and continue to work effectively as members of the Gods.

Current Status

Throttlerocket met a group of lovely young ladies at the Gods' 2007 Halloween party, all from the Pillars of Virtue supergroup. Meteor Burst, Titaness, and Harlequin Wraith all caught his eye and he spent much of the evening with the three of them. He briefly dated both Meteor Burst AND Titaness, but upon the former's disappearance, he discovered where his true feelings lay. He began dating Meteor Burst exclusively upon her return to Paragon. Now, named a Hero of the City, Throttlerocket is beginning to feel comfortable with his place in Paragon. What the future holds, only time will tell.

Affiliations

Throttlerocket was briefly a member of the All Star Sentinels of America before accepting full time membership with the Gods of the Golden Age. He is also looked upon as a "legacy" member of both the Allied All-Stars and Infinity Elite, due to the memberships of his Grandmother and Mother respectively.

Personality

Throttlerocket is an irrepressible flirt and constant bundle of energy. He can be a bit overbearing at times, but his courageous spirit and positive attitude generally win over naysayers in the end. Throttlerocket tends to concede to whomever he perceives as the "ranking" hero, whether it be team leader, SG leader, or girlfriend. He is always at the front of the charge and not just because he's the fastest. He tends to seek out the toughest opponent when fighting to ensure they hit HIM not others. He tends to feel inferior to whichever heroes he perceives as "more respected" as a result of being a "hero's kid." He cracks wise with EVERYONE, usually to mask his nerves.

Powers

Throttlerocket's mutant ability grants him with superhuman speed and agility. Running, Throttlerocket has been clocked at speeds in excess of 200 mph. In combat, he can deliver over 30 blows in the span of 30 seconds.

In addition to his speed, Throttlerocket also has incredible regenerative abilities, the limit of which have yet to be tested. On average, he heals approximately 20 times as fast as an average human and has even displayed the ability to recover from a normally debilitating injury in minutes with intense concentration.
