Personality
Natalie tends to have a fairly serious mien for her age, developed from years of reinforcement by her parents that her abilities, and thus to her mind most things, were not a game or something to be taken lightly. While she is often fairly light-hearted among trusted friends, when it comes to 'serious work', whether it is crime fighting or studying for an exam, her serious side emerges and she can be quite single-minded.
An early bout of self-conciousness about her heroing career has been overcome with the aid of her team-mates, most notably Tigra Swipe, whom she considered a role model during her early days with the Sentinels.
History
Born with the innate ability to summon and control fire, Natalie burned her way through five cribs before her parents figured out what was happening. Raised with the knowledge that she was different than most children her age, her parents brought her up with the firm belief that she should use her abilities non-selfishly. Although she wasn't certain what good being able to 'burn things to a cinder' could do, she's decided to try out the hero business while attending college, hoping to make her parents proud.
Within a few days of arriving in Paragon City and putting on her costume, she encountered another heroine using the name Lunar Sentinel. Invited to meet Lunar's team-mates the Sentinels (before the group was reformed into Sentinels United), she quickly agreed to join the group.
One team-mate in particular, the enigmatic Night Stranger, became more than just a friend and ally a few months after he left the group to found the Young Sentinels. They have been dating steadily for several months.
Abilities
Flame
Almost all of Torchlight's abilities are based upon her affinity to and control of flame. She is able to project fire in a number of different forms, including small, swift streaks, intense beams of intensely hot flame, and spheres of near-plasma that erupt upon impact. Recently, she has discovered that she can summon up a short column of fire that she can wield like a sword. While her fencing skill is minimal, the scorching heat suffices to discourage those who come too close.
Flight
Somehow, Torchlight is able to use her abilities to generate self-sustaining flight. Her own explanation for this, that she is generating thermals to lift herself with, is unlikely due to the likely side-effects that a thermal of sufficient strength would have of the surrounding vicinity.
