About The Rose
Present Situation

Union Rose is an established British superhero, now working within Paragon City. In addition to occasionally working alone to help the populace she has been seen in the company of her supergroup, the Knights of Albion, her reason for being in America is currently unclear.

Affiliations

Her main contact in Paragon City is currently her group, the Knights of Albion, her attitude towards her fellow British heroes seems to vary from member to member. Her current opinions on some of her allies are:

Dragon Chief: "It's pretty complicated. At times I really get on with him, at other times I get beyond frustrated with him. I think it's because he's content to play the fool and take the perceived 'easy' route when I know he's brighter than all that, he could do better."
Folk Tale: "Tale's abilities are amazing and she has so much potential to be a great hero. She's also a good friend when we're not working, easy girly (but not too girly!) company."
Lord Britanic: "I have nothing but respect for Lord Britanic, he's a good hero and someone I'll always feel secure fighting alongside. I'm also very glad I know him as the person behind the mask, he's easy company with great taste in music!"
Ryan Moriarty: "I find myself fascinated by his abilities, though I do worry about him in the field. He posesses a good deal of enthusiasm and I do worry he will bring himself injury if he's not careful."
The Dolmen: "The company of The Dolmen is often comforting. In the field we often think alike and our powers work well together. In our time off he never fails to be relaxing company. I often find myself envying his link to nature though, his skills far outstretch mine."

Powers and Abilities

Rose tends a plant
The main power of the Union Rose is a magical control of plants, an ability she has had since birth and never questioned. To Rose the ability to call forth vines, thorns and clouds of pollen is as natural as walking. She is accutely aware that her gift is magical in nature however, occasionally refering to herself as a 'sorceress', a daughter of a magical lineage.

It is because of her link to magic that she has managed to develop the ability of flight. At first she was unsteady but she has grown in strength when in the air, though she still finds both fighting and flying tiring.

In addition to a good grounding in magic Rose is a skilled mechanic, though she tends to keep this quiet when in costume, associating the skill too heavily with her civilian identity.

She can also communicate with the rest of her group with her Lodestone Brooch, which for her takes on the appearance of a Tudor Rose with an amber lodestone at it's center.

Vulnerabilities

Rose is sometimes a little too trusting, in trying to ensure she's always 'the good guy' she has been played for a fool on more than one occasion.

She's also not the most resilient of people, often needing the protection of protection spells or an ally in the field.

History of The Roses
War of The Roses

The White Rose of York

In the early 1980s two superheroes featured prominantly in tabloid newspapers, especially in the North of England. White Rose of York and Red Rose of Lancashire. Both had chosen their identities seperately yet became active as heroes at a similar time. Whilst they would usually keep to protecting the counties they had taken on in their names they would on occasion find themselves fighting to stop the same threat. Unfortunately the two Roses shared opposing outlooks on heroing and attempts to work together often ended in disagreements.

The White Rose of York is a calm and patient soul, willing to try to see the best in everyone. Her gifts included a skill in healing magics and a control over plants. It was reported that her powers had been passed down through her family and were a boon granted by the wild moors of Yorkshire. The media often reported sightings of the Rose on the hills in meditation, it was claimed she needed to do so to maintain her powers but following a villainous plot in 1982 to keep her from the moors this was proven to be simple rumour. The papers also reported that the White Rose was a descendant of a noble line, she was quick to address the issue for fear of compromising her secret identity. In a press conference in 1984 the heroine confirmed that some of her ancestors were of a noble house, however one of her distant relatives chose instead to live the life of a commoner 'for his own reasons'. She also urged the press to not dig any further, wanting to be able to keep her civilain life. To this day her wish has been respected.

The Red Rose of Lancashire meanwhile is hot headed, impulsive and prone to bouts of vigilanteism. His powers include an array of offensive magics, though his favoured is the control of fire. The hero claimed his gifts were passed down through his family and he could trace his roots back to the old Kings of Northumbria. The media didn't look into this claim however, instead prefering to debate the ethics of his approach to helping people.

Unexpected Union

With their differences and many reported disagreements it came as a great surprise in 1985 when the White Rose and the Red Rose called a joint press conference. More shocking still, the two announced their engagement. A few short weeks later the pair wed in their costumed identities with the papers reporting that the pair also planned to marry quietly in their civilian guises at another time.

The unexpected couple even started to fight crime as a duo, earlier disagreements seemingly a thing of the past for the pair. Reporters tried their best to unearth the cause of the sudden change of heart but found nothing.

The Hidden Rose

Months after their wedding the two Roses came to the press again. This time they announced that the White Rose would be taking a break from her duties as a hero for a while as she was pregnant. The couple were overjoyed and over the months that followed Red Rose would give statements updating those that wanted to know about how the pregnancy was going and in March 1986 announced the birth of a healthy baby daughter.

It seemed the fledgeling family would do well, the White Rose slowly returned to the public eye, though both heroes kept their baby away from the media, wanting her to have a normal childhood. It was because of their happiness and well-adjusted attitude that it came as a shock when in 1988 the couple announced that they were getting a divorce.

The baby rose remained hidden from the press however and neither of the heroes confirmed or denied the conditions of their child's custody.

The Union Rose

An early sighting of Union Rose

In 2006 a new heroine started to become active in the north of England, sometimes sighted in the company of the Red Rose or the White Rose she wore a red and white costume and posessed powers similar to the White Rose. After months of speculation over whether the woman was the baby that the press had spoken about 20 years prior the young heroine finally stepped forward. She identified herself as Union Rose and confirmed she was the daughter of the Roses. Following that journalists kept a close eye on the new hero, eager to see whether she would follow the attitude of her mother or father.

After many months of scrutiny stories on the Union Rose became remarkably similar to those on the White Rose, she was reported as a kind and gentle soul who brought out the best in people. However a few cynics maintained that perhaps she was more like her father behind closed doors.

She took both praise and criticism in her stride however and work tirelessly to prove herself as a hero in her own right. During her first year as a hero she quickly started to work away from her parents and with time formed bonds with other heroes, including the Knights Of Albion who she had always admired.

In 2011 she travelled to Paragon City alongside members of the Knights of Albion, now a fully fledged member herself though she nor any of the other members have announced their motives for coming to America.

Trivia

Rachael's (arguably complex) family includes her father, her, mother, a step-father, a half-sister and a potential half-brother (paternity under contestation)
She was educated at Sparsholt College, Hampshire, England and has a degree in Conservation and Wildlife Management
Rachael can play the violin well but has gotten out of practice.
Whilst in university she posed topless for a small alternative magazine. Whilst not ashamed of the shoot she hopes most copies of the magazine have found their way to bins over the years.
