In Brief

Xtraction is a freedom fighter/terrorist from an alternate reality that formed forty years earlier. Vanguard is the ruling force on the planet, heroes no longer exist and mutants are an endangered species.

Invasion Day

On May23, 2002 mysterious lights appear over Paragon City; The Rikti had arrived... and were soundly destroyed. On this alternate Earth, Vanguard was a rapidly evolving security firm that picked up the initial scouting portals, months before the actual invasion of the Rikti. Several Vanguard teams were dispatched and many Rikti were captured. Upon interrogation the plans for the invasion were revealed and Vanguard moved into place. When the initial portals were opened, a variety of biochemical weapons and nuclear charges(all purchased on the black market) were shoved through to the Rikti homeworld, scattering and ending their attack before the battle even started. With public relations, Vanguard was able to cover-up the use of biological agents and nuclear weapons against the Rikti and secure themselves in history as the sole heroes of the day.

Check...

Riding high on the defeat of the Rikti threat Vanguard salvaged all abandoned Rikti technology and reversed engineered it, learning the secrets to advanced teleportation and energy weapons. Freedom Phalanx was offered full use of the rebuilt technology and themselves became a supporter of Vanguard. With lobbyists in the right pockets and contacts established, Vanguard secured itself as the superior security force on the planet and immediately pushed through several hard-line amendments that established controls on the superhuman population; the first of which being the Threat Level Protocols.

The Threat Level Protocols(TLP) was established in case a hero ever "went bad"; a series of implants, depending upon their power level, were placed under the skin, making it capable to port them to a containment facility where they would be processed and imprisoned...at least that's what they were told. They only superhumans not receiving the implants would be criminals who refused the implants, currently imprisoned superhumans or natural heroes who evaded detection.

...Mate!

Years later on January 17th, 2012 the implants worldwide triggered. Heroes...villains...all disappeared. Low level threats were secured in the newly refurbished Ziggurat, while higher level threats were given electrostatic lobotomy's. Freedom Phalanx surprisingly took little to no action. A variety of reason have been suggested, but the most likely is that they were supplied special implants that actually altered their brain chemistry. In any case, shortly after they appeared as the newly dubbed "Hero Battalion", with their leader "Hour-Guard"(Statesman) putting down anyone not picked off by the implants. Vanguard seized control of the hospital teleportation systems and began transporting the few remaining heroes that were defiant. Within ten years, the superhero population was gone.

Selective Genetics

Drake Mills, alias Xtraction, was born outside the major roadways in the small town of Dennysville, Maine in 2010. Here, his parents made great efforts to keep any indication of Drakes latent mutant nature hidden, and it worked...until 2016. On a field trip to Paragon City, Vanguard initiated the "Selective Genetics Program"; a means to located superhumans who had slipped through the scans and tests set to indicate them. Drakes parents, both chaperon's to his class on a field trip to Paragon City, were killed when they attempted to hide Drake. About to be eliminated by Vanguard forces, he was rescued by the ex-hero Manticore and his band of resistance fighters and escaped into the sewers.

The Selective Genetics Program would continue on, registering fetus's in the womb as either baseline humans or being polluted with "possible variants". variants were eliminated at birth or, if they did manage to make it through without detection, when their powers became evident, they would be captured and used as living batteries to fuel entire city blocks in stasis tubes.

Training

Manticore saw something powerful in Drake; be it the cold stare, the unwillingness to receive assistance in difficult chores or maybe the constant static charge he gave off. He decided to use it. From the age of six to fifteen, Drake was trained in every facet of the military, intelligence gathering and street survival. After his fifteenth year, Manticore began training him in the use of his powers; electrical generation and tactile control. By the age of twenty he had received his first mission and almost single-handedly defeated Anitron(Positron) and freed a prison camp of two hundred. From then on he would be known as Xtraction to those in the camps.

A Soldiers Life...

As the years went by and Xtraction grew in infamy, so did Vanguards hold on the world. Reaching out to the worlds governments, they initiated a worldwide strike against Arachnos, killing Lord Recluse and scattering the powerful organizations into battling warlord units. In an additional strike Crey Industries was seized, the senior partners removed and imprisoned and their technology turned over to Vanguard. Having little if anything to stand in their way, Vanguard proceeded to establish a hand in world politics. Utilizing their win over the terrorist organization of Arachnos, they began to purchase favors worldwide...

Love Found...

At the age of thirty, Xtraction met fellow mutant resistance fighter, Tyanna...and fell in love. In a period of a month, they were married amidst a battlefield rescue no less and became iconic figures in the underground resistance. Little is known about the twenty years after this as Xtraction refuses to speak too deeply on the subject.

Less than twenty years after Xtraction was married the majority of the upper echelon of the resistance was wiped out Manticore included, leaving the movement destroyed and portal technology on the brink of discovery. In a last ditch effort to destroy "Hero Battalion" and the portal tech, Xtraction united the remnants of Arachnos and the Fifth Column along with a team of criminally insane and completely unpredictable mutants to assault the Portal Industries complex. In a final showdown with Hour-Guard(Statesman), Xtraction triggered multiple explosive charges, destroying everything within a ten block radius. The portal tech, already spinning for it's first jump misfired and started throwing out portal after portal into the area, sucking everything into it...

Sparce info...

What follows is all that is known of Xtraction's arrival in this reality. Xtraction awoke inside Portal Corps, surrounded by a security team; minutes later he left armed to the teeth with an unconscious security team in his wake. Shortly after, in the process of preventing this future from following the same lines as his own, Xtraction set about changing major events from his own line here in this reality. According to Xtraction, the history of this reality closely coincides with his own. Amongst his contacts, he was led to the supergroup Evolution-X's door.

There he gained friends and assistance in his mission, but eventually came across startling new information. Xtraction had been under the belief that he had become lost in the multiverse and he was alone. According to some researchers at Portal Corps, in actuality it appeared that multiple other life forms had been thrown through the portals and lost in the multiverse as well. Without a goodbye, Xtraction left to locate the other missing people and either return them or, dependent on who they were, destroy them.

The Return...

For six months Xtraction wandered the multiverse seeking out those lost via his new tracking equipment. He found several, unfortunately most had either started to form a new life, or were dead. Tracking the last of the signals, Xtraction followed the last signal back to the Prime CoH reality. Upon arriving, he found Evolution-X had moved and gone through some change of leadership. He managed to locate a large portion of the team working under a new banner, Aces Wild. There freestyle way of working meshed well with Xtractions tactics and he quickly joined them, now as a full fledged team member, instead of a reserve.

Fathers & Sons

Through multiple contacts, Xtraction located the last signal from his reality; his son, Reignstrike. Further investigation revealed his son had wandered Paragon and been taken prisoner by the Outcasts. In anger, Xtraction moved against the Outcasts with extreme prejudice and left a line of dead behind him, including the leader of the Outcasts, Frostfire. On a Friday morning, Xtraction was reunited with his son as police closed in. The reunion was cut short as Xtractions nemesis Hour-Guard showed up, delivering a near fatal blow to Xtraction. As Hour-Guard prepared to kill Reignstrike, Xtraction utilized the last of his power to transform into a bioelectric bolt of lightning and throw Hour-Guard back to the Rogue Isles. Reignstrike explained later that Xtractions physical form must have burnt up from the storage of that much electricity.

Personality

Cool and calculating. He rarely speaks, except in the heat of battle where he has occasionally shown a hint of humor during a firefight. jokingly he has been compared to Dirty Harry. He recently has shown to have a chink in his armor; his age. He's taken to converting an old image inducer he pulled from an Arachnos agent and formed it into a holoprojector for himself, taking an appearance similar to him in his youth. He claims he does this so the younger members of Aces Wild don't treat him differently, but some think he's sick of the "old-man" jokes...

Powers

Xtraction can generate massive amounts of electricity he can release through touch. Although lacking much control, Xtraction has also shown the ability to generate electricity in a field extending out from his body. According to him this field, when receiving additional support can extend up to a half mile out, but this would drain him of most of his powers in excess of a month or two.

Equipment

Xtraction formed a connection to the fields of tinkering, mechanics and engineering at the young age of nine and it has remained a staple of his survival ever since. Xtraction is usually armed to the teeth with everything from medieval melee weapons to advanced teleportation equipment, the majority of it coming from forty years in the future. A large portion of his technological knowledge spawns from reverse engineered Rikti tech and an advanced education, but also from a natural aptitude in the field of theoretical mechanics.
