"John Smith" isn't all he seems to be. His attempts at being regular seem off, possibly due to his impassive expression, monotone voice, odd habits, strange queries.. The list goes on. He believes himself to be lucky - since there are many strange people in the city, he doesn't seem as much of an outsider. It's funny, because he never thought of himself as an outsider. To him, he was born as a regular child, on a regular planet; even if that planet wasn't regular to us.
John grew up normal, from where he was. Perhaps a bit on the more curious side than the others, but normal none-the-less. His planet was all about unity. Everyone was to be the same, act the same, question the same. Almost everyone. There were those who didn't want to follow - and decided to attack those who did. Eventually, chaos broke out. The rebels caused riots; families and friends turned into enemies and the planet was tore apart from the inside. Few survived and those whom did, ran to a different life.John was a survivor. Earth wasn't his first choice by far - but he's always heard of it. Good and bad things, of course. His main plan was to spend a year on each planet, to see if it fit him well. Like trying out a new car, really. Eventually - it led him to that choice - Earth. But, he wanted to fit in. The unity in his blood made him yearn to, even if difference was accepted here. This, led John to created his disguise...
Registering to be an earth citizen wasn't easy. The Rikti attacks caused a great dent in people's trusts. They agreed with John's decision to hide his true colors. He was put through a series of tests, which lasted for months, to be sure he wasn't going to harm the humanity that Earth holds dear. Finally, they gave him the new identity. "John Smith" the mechanic. A small roll he fills out in Founders' Falls. To not grab too much attention on himself.
Well, he tried at least. John's skills, against what he wanted, were acknowledged. Soon, he was working on hero and heroine high-tech vehicles, designing indestructible bases, eventually leading to weapon design as well. Many sought John out - always taken aback by his originality in his work. But, he refuses to own his own shop/company. He only works for others, not himself.
The disguise aspect of it was easy. John's kind has the ability to create illusions and shapeshift. It was said that the great ancestors used it against harmful creatures whom lived near - eventually defeating them with the newly developed skills. It was passed down to generation to generation. It only took John an hour to decide on his human disguse and he wears it proudly, as though it were his own skin. But, while day is night and eyes are rested - he lets his true colors shine. To keep a reminder of who he really is.
John's curiosity for Earth-life grew and soon, like many others, he took up a heroic mantle by the name of "Devilblaze." A seemingly reckless anti-hero who uses the devil's fire plus his own use of technology to keep the streets safe of whatever is bothering him at that moment. But, while said, it still was only but a cover to get more ways to study human habits closely, yet still far.
The fire helps signifty "Devilblaze". To any of those whom decide to do research on him, will only receive the message, "Have you ever outsmarted the devil?"
Devilblaze's hand shapes into the claw of the devil with each thrust of fire. While he does not kill his enemies - he harms them greatly in burns, which eventually fade. It's merely a shock method to keep them from doing as they did again. The pain from it is rather excruciating.
The devices used are a mixture of helpful gadgets and designs John created himself. He uses them to stop the enemy in their tracts, or to increase his chances during combat during a tougher opponent. He is on a limited supply for the moment - but plans on increasing the amount of gadgets he'll use during combat as he moves up the scale on enemy groups.
If only it were true. Upon John Smith's first year - his curiousity for the planet grew. For days, he'd wander around random towns, stand on random streets and stare unblinkingly at random people, asking them random and out there questions. Many hated him for this. Because it was weird and creepy. And a little secret? He got arrested for it once, too.
Out of it all, John's main home was the library. He learned a lot of the history of American from it, as well the history of Paragon City. This lead him to Baumtown, a former area where the Rikti had taken ahold of and destroyed. Oddly, he had much interest in it and soon took his library books there instead. The Rikti didn't invade there anymore and he grew very tiresome of their invasions anyway. Not to mention a lot of heroes don't respect the quiet of the library. "Boomtown" was quiet. That was, until..
She came. Jane Lane. John had heard fighting from afar and well, he didn't like the noise much. Trolls, Outcast and even a few Homeless seemed to be bothering the poor woman on top of an old building. Very unstable. He knows. He checked it earlier. Though, she somehow managed to fight most of them off. Much to John's surprise. Not only that. He was surprised he took so much interest in the woman. Usually, his observing is for different reasons than just to stare. The building began to crack and break and the bad-guys weren't much help either. As they backed up Jane to the edge of it, the building finally gave in, crumbling to pieces underneath Jane's feet.
To both of their surprise, John was there to snag her hand before the fatal fall. Another odd feeling washed over John and for a moment, he thought he caught some sort of the disease from the woman. The strangest thing? She couldn't get enough of him. His odd "quirks", Jane thought was adorable. This made John all the more confused. For nights, he sat up wondering what happened. And yes, he did go the library to research it.
"Love" was apparently the feeling he had. Which he had no idea how to approach. But Jane made him want to watch her more than anything else. He hated it in a lot of ways. A year after, the two were soon married. And even bought a dog. Who John thinks is the smartest being alive. But, his secret was something that needed to be let out.
To his surprise, Jane was not accepting of his other side. The two went seperate ways soon after. Many believe there are more reasons than just that - but neither admit to it.
While he doesn't have a planet to report back to of his findings, John still feels the need to study things about this Earth for his own curiousity. Most of his findings include..
- The Earth's gravity. John pretty much spent a whole day on top of a large building in Steel Canyon, tossing things off of it then running down to see how hard it hit the floor. (Also, it was pretty fun.)
- Body warmth. Well. He had a wife.
- Facial expressions? John tries this - but it usually ends up with just a twitch of his lips. He has gotten use to raising and narrowing his eyebrows at things.
- Dancing. Very strange movements to music. He has taken dancing lessons after hearing the reasonings behind these movements.
The list goes on. (And player is too lazy to list the rest at the moment.)
- Ghostheart: Crazy ex-wife. John is often seen around her. He stares a bit, too. Old habit. For some reason, each time they're around each other, John manages to make her upset without his knowledge of it. Very complicated.
- Unseen Scarlet: A recent woman John has come into contact with. Possibly the most complicated human he has ever met, but he enjoys her company nonetheless. Still thinks she's rather shadey, though.
- Zombie Boy: A zombie that hangs around Jane. He knows nothing about him other than he's a zombie and does not eat people.
- Chill Yeti: John is now looking for women for this man to sleep with. Yes. It's true. Ladies, give this man a call.
