Personality

Jack10.jpg

Jack is a cross between the crotchety 70 year old man and the ultimate laid back surfer. He can be loud, opinionated, stoic, and quiet at the same time. He will speak his mind, but is also willing to be led. He rarely worries about the small details.

The public tends to see Jack, his marketing department hopes, as a super powered All American grandpa figure. In truth his sense of right/wrong, justice, and honor are nearly a black and white equation. He will do the right thing, as he sees it, and while preferring not to will kill to protect those around him.

Those who have known Jack a long time comment on a personality change. This change is attributed to the death of his family during the Rikti war and his failure to keep his second family, the Urban Legends, together.

He admits to being a bit of a closet letch and loves Paragon for the beautiful women, and their fashion choices. Despite his status as a dirty old man, he is very proper around women and has a huge soft spot for innocents and children.

Powers and Origin

Jack's powers have evolved over the 40 years he's been active. In the late 60s he began self experimenting with early Superdyne variations. These drugs altered him at a genetic level granting him and several of his children enhanced strength and durability.

Sometime in the early 70s an experiment in the use of artificial singularities as power sources went awry. Intended to test the feasibility of harvesting the energy from the destruction of microscopic particle streams directed at the event horizon a fly, literally, ruined the ointment. The unnoticed insect broached the EM containment field cause an explosion on par with a small star going nova. Fortunately for the world, the lab was constructed of neutronium and contained the explosion; unfortunately, Jack Wolfe was in the room at the time. The primitive medical transducers of the time recorded a loss of signal for 47 minutes, then as suddenly as they flat lined, Wolfe's transducers came back on line and he exited the lab apparently no worse for wear.

It is unclear how Jack survived the explosion, or was able to remold his body to contain the singularity. The exotic matter that forms Jack's body is referred to by him as organic neutronium. In addition scans show several EM patterns running through out his body; presumably these help him contain and control the singularity and its energy output as well as manipulate gravitons.

The organic neutronium body appears to simulate all the biological functions of a human body. Jack can and does eat, drink, sleep, and appears to age, but has been known to shutdown any and all of these functions when required. His aging appears to be cosmetic only.

Invulnerability

Jack is resistant to damage to the point that invulnerability is not an overstatement. His resistance to damage comes from the natural toughness of his bionetronium body, and the singularity contained within. He has learned to channel the singularity's gravitational effects to increase his density and mass exponentially, as his mass increases space warps around his body creating "force fields" that blunt and redirect attacks against his person. At maximum mass Jack is quickly exhausted.

The actual limits of Jack's invulnerability are unknown, but he has survived in vacuum, been pushed through a planet, and survived kiloton range explosions. He's also been rendered unconscious by a baseball bat. He appears to be more vulnerable to elemental and energy based attacks, and is often heard muttering a curse to the god beings "DEVS" about that fact.

Many have reported that Dr. Wolfe appears to "glow" in some situations, it is believed this prism effect is caused by light warping around his incredible mass and stray particle of matter annihilating themselves as they impact on the warped space around his body.

Super Strength

Jack6.jpg

Jack possesses great physical strength. His upper limits are unclear, but he has been seen tossing Zeus class titans around like toys. He has been rated as Superhuman:Incalculable by the UN approved Marvel Rating System (See Marvel System Strength Scale )

Like his resistance to harm, his strength comes from the incredible density of his body and the manipulation of energy fields and gravitons generated by the singularity.

Flight

Jack's ability to play his gravitational field off of the universe's allows him to achieve hypersonic velocities. Although the authorities frown on it, he has used suborbital arcs for high speed transcontinental travel. He claims to have walked on the moon and Mars under his own power.

Senses

Jack's eye sockets emit a constant glow and scans indicate no actual structure exists within his eyeball, it is theorized that his eyes are simply graviton lenses sensitive to more then the EM range. He is clearly able to see beyond the visual spectrum, this allows him to see and interpret radio, cell and television broadcasts. Jack has also shown visual sensitivity to exotic particles. He also can manipulate his the lenses and the singularity at his core to emit a stream of hyper dense gravitons from what appear to be his eyes. The dense particle stream appears to uncouple the strong forces at an atomic level causing heat and radiation damage.

Jack claims one power never evidenced to the outside world. Jack has said that if he focuses he can see beyond the spectrum into the soul of a being. He describes it as a swirling mass of colors, each of which represents a person's emotions, experiences, and temperament. He notes he's only seen pure white in newborns and on Christmas Eve, when a great white wave of life force seems to sweep the world clean for a moment. Hence Jack believes in Santa Claus.

He has demonstrated enhanced hearing, but it is believed to be related to him interpreting changes in the EM field and not detecting actual sound waves. He also appears to have an affinity for electromagnetic fields and energy patterns and is able to read or react to changes in them.

His other senses are in line with normal human. Past a certain threshold, his sense of touch/pain is shut down allowing him to function as plasma bolts tear across his skin.

Immortality, Weaknesses and Other Perks

Jack has appeared to stop aging in any meaningful way. At an age of 70 there is no evidence , beyond cosmetic, of aging or a related loss of power. In addition his body and the singularity have been dispersed several times, only to have Jack reform sometime later. The considerations and consequences of immortality are not lost the man who has watched his entire family die.

He apparently has limited control of his appearance, being able to change hair length and to some extent his apparent age at will. Any change requires considerable resources on his part and there is no evidence he can alter his body's proportions.

Teleportation causes Jack great pain, and while never refusing it, he prefers not to.

In addition, if allowed, he'd "Kill every damn telepath in the friggin 'Verse." This quote is generally considered an exaggeration attributed to his extreme vulnerability to telepathy.

Character History

Jackson Hewlett Wolfe was born to a middle class family in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. His early childhood was happy and he progressed normally until he entered school. In school it became apparent that Jack was an extremely bright child with a flair for hard sciences. Noticed by the DATA predecessor Jack was placed in accelerated classes in order to exploit his gifts. Receiving his first college degree at 12 several more soon followed.

In the mid 50s, while pursuing one of his Doctorates Jack was approached by "The Agency". This branch of the US government teamed him with a meta name Whitley Dragonston. The team was provided with an enormous budget, alien bodies, meta corpses, and exotic technology. With these resourced they helped keep America "safe". Together they amassed a large arrest record with Whitley taking the bad guys down while Jack provided lab support and reversed engineered any toys they came across.

In the mid to late 60s, soon after Jack perfected his Optical Cube Processor, Jack and Whitley were attacked by the Manga Tech Ring from Japan. Whitley defended the lab from Mangabots while Jack crafted an EMP bomb. Unfortunately Jack was too slow and Whitely was badly wounded. In a effort to save a dieing Whitley Jack transferred his essence into an experimental OCP. He then installed the OCP in a Mangabot chassis, returning his friend to life. Whitley was horrified at what Jack had done to him and fled Jack, The Agency, and civilization. Jack decided to balance the universal karma by taking Whitley's place on the street.

Using early Superdyne samples, Jack exposed himself to a modified form of the drug and took to the streets. Unaware of its narcotic effects Jack became addicted to the substance and was deemed unreliable by the Agency. Fired, he took to the road for several years; it is unclear what happened in this time frame, but he ended up in Paragon City with a wife and child. Teaching at Paragon U he formed Wolfetec Consultants, a research lab/patent house, and reestablished ties to The Agency.

Sometime in the early 70's an experiment gone wrong took Wolfe's mutated Superdyne body and converted it into a graviton well. His powers and physiology remained basically the same, but were pushed far beyond the limits of Superdyne's chemical alterations. Completing several government jobs, and fighting in more then one war, Jack grew rich off his patents, papers, and novels. During the Rikti war he served with honor until his wife and most of his family were killed in front of him.

Despondent, Jack bowed out of most of his life, leaving the operation of Wolftec to his surviving daughter; he focused on his surf shop and teaching a few classes at Paragon U. In 2004, when the call went out from the surviving eight, Jack reluctantly answered. Since then he has had his personal ups and downs, but still fights the good fight.
