"We'll do anything for you, Beth!"
Creation/Inspiration
Bethany is my first Mastermind. I wanted to do something I'd never done before, with a story that had some sort of depth and reason. I have to say, I'm pretty darned excited about her. As far as personality/theme...I'm a movie buff and will give you a comparison: think "Cruel Intentions" blended with "The Craft".
Appearance
Bethany stands at 5'7" and weights about 120 lbs. Her hair is long and blonde, and she obviously takes great care in her grooming and personal appearance. Her eyes are a deep blue, often narrowed in a glare of disdain, and a smirk is usually pulling at her lips. Her clothes tend to be on the 'sexy' side, though tasteful. She is far from what anyone would call a whore--she's more of what people might call...a tease. It would be apparent that she grew up in an extremely comfortable home financially, based on the elegant (yet simple) diamond studs she wears in her ears.
Personality
This is a girl who, while young, has a pretty good grasp on how the world works--and she is in it for what she can get out of it. She's arrogant, selfish, completely vain, and has very little (if any) care for her fellow human beings. She doesn't bother hiding her disdain from anyone she finds to be useless or dull--which is nearly everyone. She's the sort of girl who would be upset over some act of violence against another, only if it happened near enough to her for blood to get on her outfit. Those stains are such a bitch to get out, after all.
Powers
Beth wears a simple gold band on her left pinky which is enchanted with a spell, causing the weaker-minded (usually simple street thugs) of the male population to believe that they are actually in love with her. This, in turn, makes them more than willing to step directly in front of a bullet for her, even if this means they have to give their life. She's not too concerned about them, of course--again, they serve their purpose, which is to die for her, if necessary. If they do, in fact, die...they were useless and had it coming. If they live...well, they live. So what.
As well, Bethany is learning more and more of the dark arts. She has recently discovered a Tome of the Shadow within the haven she's taken up residence in, and has been pouring over it and expanding her talents from the manipulation of her fellow human beings, to the manipulation of Shadow. She freaking loves it.
Travel
Recently, Beth has learned from the Tome of the Shadow that it's possibly to manipulate the shadows around her enough to lift her into the air. So yeah, she flies.
Weaknesses and Limitations
When it all comes right down to it--Bethany is still just a human. She can be injured and/or die, just like any other human. Her saving grace lies in her power to get other people to do that for her.
Equipment
The Ring of Himerus
Himeros was the personification of lust and sexual desire in Greek mythology, and is the spirit that Bethany has used to bless and enchant her ring. The enchantment on it causes those that are weaker of mind to confuse lust with unconditional love, making them willing to do anything, even lay down their life, for the wearer of the ring.
The Enamored (Thugs Mastermind)
Yes, she does consider those that fall under the spell of her ring to be nothing more than tools, and she doesn't treat those tools well. Because they are weak-minded, she sees them as unworthy of her time or care, and pretty well ignores them. If one dies, another nameless, doting one takes his place. She sees them as completely expendable, and they are.
"Keep Your Friends Close"
For the moment, Bethany doesn't really have anyone she actually considers to be a "friend", which really only means those she finds moderately interesting, or useful in some way. However, there is...
- AJ Danvers: A completely uncaring bastard, who basically didn't notice much more than the fact that Beth was a "hot blonde with adoring idiots in tow". For the simple reason that he had shown no interest in her, she was interested in him. Now that they've worked together, they've both seen one another's usefulness, and their attraction for each other has grown into...well, a relationship. For the most part, this relationship consists of shared chaos, murder, and mayhem throughout the Isles and Paragon City...stopping along the way here and there to...well, you know.
"Keep Your Enemies Closer"
Again...there aren't really "enemies" persay for the time being. There are only those she finds useless and unremarkable...boring idiots. These consist primarily of women.
- Dark Silver: Thrown into a team one day, Bethany found herself and AJ trading jabs with this woman all day long. Things were fine, and she was actually beginning to like Silver, until a nerve was struck...Silver rode that nerve, eventually causing Beth and AJ to leave the team--loudly. As of now, Bethany's just waiting for the day that she and her boyfriend see Silver again...so that she can watch AJ "burn her to a crisp, then leave her out in the sun to rot."
History
"Such a good girl..."
Bethany attended the Lady of Lourdes school for girls, and was always considered the 'good girl' growing up, though her childhood was much like any other of her family's stature. Nannies. Lots of them. Her father, an extremely well-paid coorporate attorney was usually off working, (or seeing one of his line of mistresses) and her mother had a fondness for prescription medication, which kept her often in her spa-like rehabs overseas. This left Bethany, more often than not, to her own devices, and she was as clever and manipulative as she was wicked. Through school, her favorite thing to do was to manipulate groups of friends into fighting, ending lifelong friendships in many cases, and sitting back to watch the sparks fly...knowing that she was safe from anyone realizing that it was she who caused the riff in the first place. While her "extra curricular activities" brought her great enjoyment, she also was very careful to maintain the outter appearance of the good girl--a straight-A student, active on the student council, as well as within the community, etc. Most simply assumed that she was a girl who had it all: beauty, brains, a kind heart, and a wealthy background. Well, they were right about most of it.

- As much as Bethany comes across as a "slut" or "whore", most would be surprised to know that she's actually never been with anyone but AJ.
