Novice refers to characters who, for whatever reason, are believed to be just beginning their training or career as a hero or villain. It implies a degree of naivety or "genre-blindness" which suggests inexperience (although not stupidity). Please note that this category is best utilized for characters who will likely retain this trait for some time, regardless of in-game security or threat levels. A character who reaches level 50 in regard to their powers may be just as uncomfortable and uncertain of themselves as a hero/villain as they were at level 1.

A "Novice" character is a good building block toward building a Fallen Hero or Reformed Villain.

The opposite of the "novice" may be the Ex-Hero, who either does or does not return from retirement.
