Trey was initially created simply because I loved the Sands of Mu temporary power, and decided on the basis of that, I wanted to give a dark/dark scrapper a whirl. Pretty soon, however, a personality started to develop, and it just snowballed from there.

He also exists as a Martial Arts/Willpower scrapper with the ID Calawesa.

Trey is currently a member of Last Homely Haven. He lives in Skyway City, a block away from the Paragon Police Department, with his brother, Sundancer.

Physical Appearance

Actor Exemplar: David Midthunder

First, his 'living' form. Of his two parents, Trey more closely resembles his Shawnee mother. He has the same slightly aquiline features, and slightly shaggy black-brown hair that seems to perpetually fall into his dark brown eyes, which have the beginnings of crow's-feet in the corners. He is much taller than his mother, however, getting his height from his Dad's side of the family, which is largely French-Canadian. He has several notable scars. One is a long, thin scar on the back of his right arm, extending from just below his wrist to halfway up to his elbow. The others are a pair of small, circular marks, about the size of the head of a horseshoe nail, on the middle of the inside of his forearms.

Then, his 'ghost' or hero form. The same shaggy hair is now short as befits PPD regs, and bleached white, as is the rest of him. Ectoplasm isn't exactly known for its abundance of pigment, after all. Torn, ragged shroudlike pennants flow from his shoulders, and his eyes are covered by mirrorshades. The scars on his 'alive' form are not shown here.

Both forms share the same trio of unbroken chains tight around his neck. He doesn't know why they are there, as he never wore any jewelry when he was a 'norm'.

Personality

In combat, Trey rarely shows anger. Indeed, he often wears his usual cocky half-smile, spouting the occasional wisecrack in between whistling completely incongruous tunes while he fights. Particular favorites range from standards like 'Night and Day' and 'Just a Gigolo' to 'Girl from Ipanema' and the Mickey Mouse Club theme... even the Old Spice aftershave jingle.

Outside of combat, when he allows himself to breathe again and shifts from ghost to living form, he's something of a wiseass with a cranky streak. He tends to watch more than participate in what's around him, though he's not afraid to put a word in... even if it's not entirely appropriate.

Powers

As a ghost, Trey can manipulate dark energy to make his punches more effective, as well as help protect him from damage. (Dark Armor and Dark Melee powersets.) Attempts to use these abilities while alive are possible, but make him violently ill.

The Chariot's aspect is involved in overcoming challenges, as well as encouraging mental and physical discipline. In this vein, Trey has decided recently to learn to fight without relying on his ghost form, instead taking up martial arts and relying on sheer willpower (or as some might prefer to describe it, pure muleheaded stubbornness) to keep his limbs in order. (Martial Arts and Willpower powersets.)

Character History

Trey was born in Muncie, Indiana, to Kaia Mercer, of mostly Shawnee descent, and Calvin Mercer, of mostly French-Canadian ancestry. His twin brother, Trenton Kalositah, was stillborn. As a child, he paid only minimal attention to his Native American background, although he participated in a few powwows as a grass dancer between the ages of seven and ten. After that, he continued to attend them to assist his mother in lifting heavy things and organizing, but didn't dance.

As a student in school, Trey was entirely undistinguished... a C student with the occasional B. It was during his early teens that he decided to become a policeman, after meeting many of Muncie's finest as he worked a part-time job at the gas station his father Calvin managed.

When Trey was 15, his Uncle Dave, his father's Shawnee half-brother, died suddenly of an undiagnosed congenital heart defect. Calvin moved his family to Paragon City, where Dave Mercer lived, to take over managing his brother's gas station. Trey began attending a vocational school, eventually moving on to the police academy. He graduated and entered the Paragon Police Department with the graduating class of 1995.

He served for ten years as a motorcycle patrolman in Skyway City, until September 1, 2005. He was riding patrol on one of the elevated highways when a supa troll leaped onto the road in front of him, and the two collided. The troll must have been carrying something incendiary, as the fuel leaking from the motorcycle lit off. Both Trey and the troll burned to death.

At some point before he breathed his last, Trey received an offer from an unknown agency, offering to make him an avatar of the tarot card Seven, the Chariot. As he wanted to live, he embraced the offer... yet still expired.

It was some time after Trey's funeral that a ghostly hero appeared in Paragon, at the offices of the Association for Arcane Research. One of the founders, Parzifal, was startled by his sudden appearance, calling him 'Tarosvan' which is Cornish for 'ghost' or 'phantom'. The ghost, Trey, liked the sound of it, and used it as his hero ID.

The rest... I'll type in someday. Or maybe once I get his history done for this year's NaNoWriMo. Who knows?

Trivia

Tarosvan, as depicted by Jomaro Kindred

He is a passingly good grass dancer, thinks of trying smoke dancing, and sometimes daydreams about dancing in the Gathering of Nations.

He once dressed in drag, along with two of his fellow patrolmen, for a forties karaoke fundraiser, playing the part of one of the Andrews Sisters. Yep, 'Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy'. The presentation was unanimously regarded as 'horrible' and 'hilarious' by those in attendance.

His Uncle Dave, his father's half-brother, belonged to a KISS tribute band. As he played drums for the band, Dave wore the Peter Kriss Catman makeup. Dave Mercer could also play electric guitar and keyboards.

In his spare time, when he's not practicing dances, Trey likes to shoot hoops, though he'd certainly join in on an informal basketball team if one were offered.

He is also interested in learning to play electric guitar, as he recently received a 57 Gibson Les Paul Black Beauty which used to belong to his uncle. The guitar arrived in horrible shape, though, after being kept in storage for about two decades, so he's working on getting it refurbished and repaired.

Trey's been looking into buying a police edition Harley Road King, like the ones he rode when he was on patrol. To that end, he works for Vanguard in the Rikti War Zone, usually in ghost form.
