Personality

Shimmerling, or Shimmer as she prefers to be called, is a very childlike and optimistic creature. An alien from a nameless planet in another galaxy, Shimmer is very intelligent and learns quickly, though her grasp of 'Earthling interactions' is very limited. She's very sensitive and curious, as well as having a great desire to belong.

Psychic Powers

Shimmer's psychic potential is undocumented, largely because it's beyond anything known to be humanly possible. Listed here are the abilities that she's displayed to date.

Psychic Blasts

Shimmer can focus her mental energy into blasts of force much like other psychics. While she generally uses these powers on a low level, if cornered or frightened she's been known to use potentially lethal blasts in self defense.

Telekinesis

Shimmer's telekinetic powers are probably her best documented ability. She seems capable of moving objects of almost any shape, size, and weight with only a thought and a gesture, often performing whimsical pranks on people.

Telekinetic Shielding

Shimmer has the ability to project bubbles of protective energy using her telekinesis. These seem able to reflect almost any attack, but seriously hamper her offensive capabilities. Her most notable use of this ability was her flight across lightyears of space while protected only by a thin coccoon of energy projected by her mind.

Telepahty

Shimmer has an incredible telepathic talent. The main means of communication of her race, Shimmer's telepathic abilities often get her into trouble as it actually can't be blocked. Bad experiences have taught her that reading peoples' minds on Earth is rude, and she rarely does it, especially if she detects some kind of barrier.

Immortality

Shimmer's body doesn't require food like the human body does. Instead, her body draws it's energy from the seemingly limitless pool of psychic energy she creates through a poorly understood reaction involving positive emotions. As such, Shimmers powers and health rely directly on her happyness. It's a worrying thought to her friends that, were Shimmer to become depressed, she might actually die.

Origin

Shimmer's life began lightyears away from Earth on a small, incredibly peaceful planet. Her race, which she refers to as Shimmerlings, evolved in an environment with no natural predators, and indeed no other species on the same world.

Their peaceful existence was shattered one day when a consortium of intergalactic pirates sought the incredibly powerful psychic beings as slaves. Many Shimmerlings were captured and taken from their world, often dying in captivity because of their dependance on positive emotions to sustain their mental energies, meaning that the slavers returned frequently.

Eventually the Shimmerlings created a vast psychic barrier around their planet to fend of the invaders, but it was the downfall of the race. When the pirates realized they no longer had access to the violence-free Shimmerlings, their commander ordered that a nearby cluster of asteroids, the remains of another planet, be towed into a collision course with the planet.

As the deadly chunks of space debris hurtled into the atmosphere, hundereds of the innocent Shimmerlings were killed in impacts akin to nuclear explosions. While the catastrophe killed both billions of Shimmerlings, and the planet itself, one escaped, protecting itself in a coccoon of psychic energy.

After years of traveling alone through space, the coccoon eventually reached a small backwater world, too far from her home to be threatened by the slavers. And thus the last Shimmerling came to Earth, to live out the rest of her days protecting a species at war with itself.
