History

Before the First Invasion

Adrian Thompson was born into the lap of luxury. His father, having grown his small company from Thompson Construction, LLC. to Thompson Industrial Contracting, wanted to provide his wife Martha with everything she had ever dreamed of having. This included a child. Their son was named after Martha's father. The young man wanted for nothing. He had access to the best private tutors in anything he set his mind to, and all of Paragon City would be his oyster.

As a young teen, he made a very influential friend in the form of Justin Sinclair. Justin was an upperclassmen at young Adrian's preparatory school, and despite the Thompson family's only recent elevation to the wealthy elite, the Thompsons and Sinclaires were known to vaction together from time to time.

The Invasion and The Prophecy

Adrian remembers well the day the Rikti came to this world in force. It was supposed to be the day that he and his parents would tour potential college campuses, setting Adrian on his journey into adulthood. His parents left him in the penthouse to pack while they went to retrieve what would be his going away present, a small collection of family heirlooms that dated back to when his great great grandparents on his father's side had immigrated from Greece.

Adrian would never see his parents again. The portals opened, and the armies of the Rikti poured into our world. When the alarms sounded, Adrian rushed in a panic to the nearest shelter with the rest of the building, while his parents abandoned their car as the traffic became impassable. While taking a Tram back to Atlas Park, Statesman flew through a Rikti Warship causing it to crash onto the Tram line below, killing the elder Thompsons.

While cowering in the hastily prepared bunker, desperately trying to reach his parents, Adrian was being watched. A rouge M.A.G.I. Operative, formerly with the Prophecy and Portents division was looking for the proof that he was not mad. He had found an ancient prophecy warning of the coming of some kind of invasion, and he had tracked the mystical lineage of the one the prophecy described as a savior to the young man panicking not far from him.

The Prophecy In full

From the line of Athena in the days when the gods themselves are long forgotten will come a champion of the people, He Who Walks Among the Stars. His will and his right is the very forces that causes the movements of the universe and the changing of the seasons. He will use this right to uplift and defend lest those around him should fall unto darkness. And in the dark days when the skies themselves open and an army comes from farther than the eye can see but nearer than the heart can comprehend, victory will only be found when he is willing to sacrifice himself on the alter of victory.

A Hero is Born, Sort of...

In the chaos of the invasion the M.A.G.I. agent was able to easily make off with the young Adrian. He was secreted away to a cave system recently liberated from the Circle of Thorns. There, Adrian was subjected to painful and torturous mystical amplification techniques in an attempt to awaken the full potential of the magic that ran through his veins.

This process did not leave him unmarked. His arms were tattooed with a potent arcane ink to focus his latent powers into an offensive weapon, but his body could not contain all the forces now coursing through him. His eyes were consumed, seeping the mystical energy of motion into our world. He can still see, but his vision is limited when things aren't moving.

His training at the hands of the madman lasted until Adrian could reliably use his powers enough to pass a Hero Corps entrance exam, and consequently subdue his captor.
