"So you think you can keep up with me? Fine, I'll show you the ropes, but if you fall behind, it's your own ass..."

Who She Is And Where She's From

Jade is a no-nonsense, headstrong woman trying to find her way through a life that apparently started when she was around 10 years of age. It's oddly difficult to find out any details of her life before this, though many have tried. Most have failed, some of them spectacularly.

Slow to trust, she'll back those who have earned it to the wall. Though she has a reputation for being impatient, impulsive, and prone to jumping into the fight before everyone's ready, the last year seems to have shown her mellowing. Though no less deadly, she seems to approach situations with a bit more forethought. She has a smart mouth and takes verbal abuse about as well as she delivers it - don't expect her to back down. Although some view her as simply a thug, she's highly intelligent and emotional. She works well in (some) teams but requires leaders who know how to handle her brand of ability and attitude. Many people in charge view her mouth and methods as subversive and undermining of their authority. She believes this just means they're insecure in their position. She questions a lot, but if she trusts the order, she'll do her damnedest to get the job done.

Time In The Isles

The first appearance of Jade, known then as Jade Spike, can be traced to St. Martial in the early 1990's when she was noted as a new addition to the ranks of the Outcast. Though only apparently about 10 years of age, she was able to hold her own. Jade didn't exactly fit in with them, though she seemed to have carved out a useful niche for herself by running communications between various members of the gang. Running messages between gangs as well, though, eventually got her into trouble. Her superior reflexes were noted early, and that's one thing that enabled her to survive those early years on the streets. The spines didn't manifest until she was in her teens, and that power blossomed under very violent circumstances. She was unaware of the other forces working with, or on, her until much later in her life.

In 2006, Jade was accused of murdering 17 people, including 5 "youths" and her uncle. She was incarcerated in the Zig while the investigation was conducted, but before they could get around to 'dealing' with her, she was quietly released for unknown reasons. Slipping away quickly, ever aware that it could have been a mistake that set her free, Jade made her way to Paragon to try to lose herself in anonymity. To this day she's not certain what happened.

Time In The City

She arrived in Paragon City quietly, changing her name to Tumultuous Jade. She kept her head down at first, trying to figure out whether or not there was anyone on her tail. When things seemed safe enough, she began to venture out and work within the City. Jade's abilities continued to improve as she trained beside Longbow and Heroes alike, and she began to make a name for herself in Paragon. Her roots showed in the people she associated with (see Affiliations), but she always just managed to stay on the right side of the law.

In 2008 she began re-visiting the Isles and, known to a select few, travels relatively freely between the two locations.

Those Who Have Her Back

No 'lone wolf' can stay that way forever and survive, at least not and stay sane. Jade is no exception to that, though her traits and quirks often make it difficult for her to maintain lasting relationships. What follows are some of her known associations with groups in both the Rogue Isles and Paragon City along with assumptions about her current base(s) of operations. Information on individuals Jade's associated with are detailed later.

Starting In The Isles

Although Jade's earliest times can be traced to the Outcast, it's uncertain that she was ever actually controlled by this gang. There is some suggestion that she merely associated with them for her convenience; certainly she did not have good relations with either the Trolls or the Hellions, given the trail of bodies that were left behind her while she was very young. Though not known as a "casual killer", in the last few years Jade has been seen to strike Hellions down without apparent second thought and has been known to pursue them with grim determination despite their obvious inability to do her further harm.

Shortly after her association with Inevitable Evolution, her behavior and activities seemed to gain focus. Strong evidence suggested that she did not get along well with the leadership, though. Several informants noted that Jade's tendency toward sarcasm at the wrong times and her impulsive nature seem to rub some of the leaders of IE wrong. One eager young mutant reported a nasty confrontation between Run Riot and Jade while the two of them were in Pocket D. There are whispers of the physical conflict that rose from that interaction but no one seems to know how it truly turned out. At least not anyone speaking about it.

She no longer seeks sanctuary with IE, and instead gives her support to Phoenix Insurrection. Given that the leadership within the group includes several of of Jade's close associates, this is not surprising. Some people wondered, though, how long she'd stick this relationship out - after all, she's a known "lone wolf" and tends to move on quickly. After four years, though, she's still within the leadership of this vigilante group.

Continuing In Paragon

It is believed that the first cohesive group in the City that Jade ran with was 21 Stones, a relatively young but solidly established hero group. No one knows exactly why she left them, but reports suggest she has kept in touch with at least a few of the members and leaders from that group. Jade then apparently spent a few weeks with the Villains of Paragon City, having caught the eye of Arbiter Death in some way, before changing her allegiance to a newly formed group going by The Spiders Web. Quickly made a Director of that suspicious group, Jade came under scrutiny by officials in Paragon City. Before a decision about her loyalties could be made, The Spiders Web came under harsh and obvious attack by Arachnos and the activities of the group dropped under the radar. It was assumed that the Web had been destroyed, but key elements have been surfacing lately, although changes seem to have occurred. It was thought that Jade had left the Web and re-established herself with 21 Stones, but later intelligence had her running with Vanguard Alliance or Army of Sparta. Again, though, her founding support seems to be Phoenix Insurrection.

What She's Been Embroiled In Lately

Her original file indicated she possessed an inherent ability to create spines in-vivo and that those spines delivered a variety of toxic substances. Later reports noted Jade has been seen working with blades. Her primary sword appears to be made from the same materials as her spines, but no one who's been able to get close to her as been able or willing to confirm this. No one seems to be able to figure out why she's made this move.

Through her affiliations with Inevitable Evolution, The Spiders Web, and Phoenix Insurrection, Jade has come into conflict with a variety of groups and organizations. Her initial primary target appeared to be the Council, but that shifted to the 5th Column since their return. Eyewitness reports indicate she has a tendency to lose control of her anger when confronted by them, something her enemies have tried to exploit. It hasn't done them a lot of good, though, as most of them have ended up dead.

Jade evidenced an increased "interest" in the Circle of Thorns. Speculation was that this was a result of her relationship with one Soul Harbinger, who was reported to have been missing for nearly a year. He's since been seen with her, however, and her activities against the Thorns have receded slightly. Regardless, the Thorns have been keeping a watchful eye out for her and seem to be trying to avoid her attentions. g

For a brief time, Jade was wanted by the officials in Ouroborus, but that misunderstanding seems to have been resolved...at least in this timeline.

Jade used to spend a fair bit of time in Recluse's Victory and could be found on both sides of the conflict. As of late she hasn't been there as often, and rumor has it events in the Isles have kept her busy.

Closer inspection reveals that Jade is highly involved in the running of Phoenix Insurrection, working closely with Unleashed Force to wreak havok around the Isles.

People She'll Back To The Wall

Soul Harbinger was introduced to Jade by Unleashed Force just before a friendly arena match (which Jade won, by the way). Their friendship grew quickly and ultimately culminated in a quiet but intimate relationship. The two were often be found in Recluse's Victory, a combination that proved deadly for several heroes. While Soul was well known to be able to take care of himself, he's one person who might be used against Jade.

Clint Sanders/Unleashed Force was a driving force in getting Jade back into the Isles and into Inevitable Evolution before she followed him into Phoenix Insurrection. After many trials and tribulations with the two standing side-by-side, the two of them have become close friends, and Clint is one of the few Jade will drop everything to help.

Shadowed Twilight showed up in Inevitable Evolution and began associating with Jade on various missions and while hanging out at Pocket D. Kat's gentle nature and mannerisms worked their way through Jade's defenses, and she now considers the shadowy woman a close friend. Kat's transition to MurKat resulted in some tension that seems to have resolved, leaving the two closer than ever.

Kinematik, a surfing speedster from the City, supposedly has some history with Jade but the details are not well known. Rumor has it she pulled him out of a tight spot, but it might well have been the other way around. Reports confirm he's close enough to her to be a chink in her defenses, but none who have gone for him have survived to tell of it.

Aires Guard, a founding member of 21 Stones, is one person who consistently brings out the 'good' in Jade. He is a staunch defender of all that's right and good in the world, and has helped Jade to maintain an equilibrium despite the chaos and tragedy that are her background.

Out Of The Tumult, Observations Rise

"Jade is one of the closest friends I have, and yet I feel like I've only scratched the surface. I sometimes joke with Soul that I should ask him about Jade's past, and ask Jade about his past. Still, in an odd way, I know and understand Jade. She's witty, sometimes sarcastic, trustworthy, loyal once you win loyalty...and yet somehow she manages to remain aloof even among those closest to her. She's a good friend, and I would have her fight at my side any day...even if I do end up having to ask Mur to drain her on occasion so we can escape when she wants to keep fighting..." -Shadowed Twilight

"We go back a ways." -Kinematik, shortly before he disappeared in a wake of intense wind.

"She's nice, sexy, kinda sweet at times, and she goes without a shirt on occasion. She also doesn't mind my mask and stuff, and like all women like her she's taken. Just my luck. Aw, well, she makes a great friend." - Blast Asylum

"...Jade...Hmm...I can't quite figure her out. I'm not entirely sure anyone can...She is quite the puzzle. No matter...no reason for her not to be, really, hmm?..." - Kheldragon

Songs That Might Represent Her...or Might Not

Coming Undone - Korn: "Choke choke again/I thought my demons were my friends/Getting me in the end/They're out to get me/Since I was young"

Whatever - Godsmack: "I'm doing the best I ever did/Now go away!"

Misunderstood - Dream Theater: "It challenges the essence of my soul/And leaves me in a state of disconnection/As I navigate the maze of self control...If I seem superhuman/I have been/Misunderstood"

Headstrong - Trapt: "Back off, I'll take you on/Headstrong to take on anyone"
